Snoopy ROCKS on Ice!!!

Looks like say goodbye to the CP Cinema and hello to the new "Good Time Theatre". Anyone excited about this new live entertainment? Kind of reminds me of Disney on ice but it has to be better if CP is putting it on, should be good for families with young kids.  Anyone out there gonna check this out when it debuts in 2002?  Anyone sad that there will be no more IMAX?

Come to think of it, I worked at CP last season and never did catch the IMAX show. :( Bummer.... Guess I wont have a chance to now.

Granted I have seen the ice show yet, but I'm disappointed. I'd much rather see the IMAX stay. I suppose the moral of the story is that if you can't come up with good films, you're best just to get rid of it!

I saw "Michael Jordon to the Max" it was good, especially the part with Bill Murray and his XL sized popcorn tub but who doesn't LOVE Snoopy???  Hey, I might even be able to get my coaster-hater friends from school to come visit me at work this summer....

does anyone have proof or is this another rumor??

I dont like the idea of loosing IMAX for ice skating....Now I thought the Micheal Jordan to the Max was stupid.  It only was for a select sporting crowed.  My kids slept through it.  With every season good things go away and go things come....I'll reserve my judgement for next season... I'm sure it will be good.
Proof? Check out the officiacl CP site. It is right there.

I too will miss the IMAX having watched all the movies since 1975. (Hail Columbia was the best) But, it is difficult to find IMAX movies anymore. Omnimax(like the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland) seems to be the way the "large" films are being made.

I think the show will be a great activity to sit through and should be fun for all. We'll check it out opening day.

I'm torn. I liked the IMAX movies, but I also like figure skating. If they bring in some of the professionals for "guest" appearances, it WILL draw a crowd. I wouldn't expect any male 13-25 year olds to understand this tho.

I'm not against the ice show. I think it sounds great. I probably will see it opening day. But I just wish they would have found someplace else to put it or built a new facility. Maybe that's not possible or maybe they didn't try. Or maybe it was a good reason to get rid of an attraction they didn't want to maintain anymore.

I would like to have seen an upgrade to an Omnimax setup or even IMAX 3D.

where on Cedar Point's site is the Snoopy Announcement???  I couldn't even find the Wicked Twister announcement until I put it in a search.

I think it is a great idea.  IMAX was overdone and this is something the whole family can enjoy.  Have you ever been to any of those Disney on Ice shows?  They draw big crowds in every city they appear.

Anyone know how many seats are/were in the theater?

You can see IMAX in Dearborn at the Henry Ford Museum.  You just have to drive a litttle further, you people that live in Ohio and beyond.  Maybe its time you felt what it's like being a Michigander having to endure the drive time factor.

I've enjoyed IMAX greatly over the years, but the movies lately have been pretty poor. My favorite movie over the years was "To Fly!". Some of the novelty of IMAX has worn off, since the theaters are pretty common now, and it seems most of the new good stuff is coming out in the OMNIMAX format. So, just like with a computer, if you can't get good software to run on it, get rid of it. I think the ice show will be a terrific addition, and much more entertaining than the IMAX movies have been lately.

Wade, we have an OMNIMAX theater in Cleveland, at the Great Lakes Science Center.

I'm gonna miss the IMAX.
After a few things that I learned last week, I suspect that the decision to pull the plug on the Cedar Point Cinema instead of coming up with a new venue for the ice show is a little bit like the decision to drop the Hardees franchise a few years ago. And it has a lot to do with the way IMAX operates, with their projection system leasing arrangements, licensing fees, branding requirements, and to add insult to injury, the films available for the IMAX 15/70 format are kind of limited. There are good IMAX films out there, but most of them have played the Cedar Point Cinema, and it seems most of the 15/70 production effort these days is going into ridefilm production. To the extent that a couple of years ago, Cedar Point was running an Iwerks ridefilm demo reel in there.
I'd have preferred to see a new venue for Snoopy rather than lose the Cinema. But apparently refitting the Cinema is the most fiscally sound choice.

(Edit: IMAX is 15/70, not 11/70.)

I would have liked to see them keep the IMAX show, enclose the other portion of the IMAX theater building, and do the ice skating show in there.  That way there would be two major shows in that one building (rather than the pre-show and the main show).  The former Cedar Point Cinema building seems like a rather large venue for an ice skating show.  I'd go as far as saying if the huge screen isn't being utilized, the building is basically a monstrosity.  I would think a building more along the lines of the "Globe Theater" at BGW would make sense.  I'm sure CP made the fiscally better decision as Dave said.  An perhaps having two major shows next to each other wouldn't be good either.  But I have a feeling the IMAX being gone will disappoint a few people.
