Snake river is staying!

crazy horse's avatar

When I was on the boat ride checking out all the missing trees on the island(and the missing buckey beaver), I noticed that they had replaced a lot of wood on the snake river falls pump house building.

This says to me that it may be staying after all. Not that it was ever confirmed to be leaving anyway.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

How does that island look? Anyone notice anything?

Bare!!!

I can see that this may be the last year for paddlewheel.

While riding the train, I also noticed some new cement pads between mine ride and the paddlewheel boats.

I know when I was on the train yesterday that Sncak River Falls need some paint for sure! It is getting very rusty. Also, it seems like when you cross the bridge while you are on the train, there seems to be less greenery in that area. I will keep my eyes out to see what happens! I hope the boats stay! They are a fun relaxing ride when you taking a break from the coasters!

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

They could have replaced that wood for structural or cosmetic purposes. Wood isn't that expensive, so it's not like it's a huge investment to replace some of it.

And just because they may take out SRF, does not mean they want to take out its pump house it may (please) be needed for the new ride.

^Very good point.

The island look very bare from Millennium yesterday morning and you could still see a lot of Terror Island stuff sticking out of the trees that were left! It was pretty funny to see a giant pirate flag sticking up out of the trees.

They replaced a ton of wood around White Water Landing the year that it was removed, so new wood does not prove or disprove anything.

I hope this is Snake River's last year...it's on a short list of rides I won't miss. CP only needs 1 soaking ride, and Thunder Canyon fills that niche.

The park is really missing an exciting/pleasant water ride that you don't get very wet on. I personally hope it's a brand new setup/technology, as the typical log flumes are all about the same in my book...been there, done that. They feel very dated for 2009.

I hope it's not the standard logs or boats you sit in, where they smell and collect gross foot water that you have to avoid by lifting your legs. I also hate when the flumes have a trickle of water and rely purely on the log/boat wheels, and slam the corners constantly.

My dream setup is where the vehicles are truly floating at a rapid current, and the flume width is 2X the width of the vehicle. Then it follows some smooth track in the center, where you never touch the edges (and it could open up into large pool areas, where it looks like you're goin to hit rocks, but your preset path saves you just in time). It could go through periods of extreme accelerated water and multiple hills....finally into a pitch black tunnel, where the current slows. Out of nowhere, accelerated water out of the black tunnel, continuing down the big final hill...extreme splash so powerful that riders are only misted.

Something new like that will be a hit for years to come, and another reason to run to frontier town in the morning. Stick another 1970s traditional flume ride in, and it'll be another low-attendance walk-on after a year or so. Don't disappoint me CP.

I too would not miss SRF. I have never had any desire to ride it. Always thought the way it leaks water onto the train as it passes underneath was amateurish in setup (I visit Disney a lot - they would never have allowed that). Also, the sight of people soaked to their skin from head to toe and walking around in dripping swim suits at an amusement park was unappealing.

I definitely could envision a new flume ride with a frontier theme that would go out to the animation island and back. That could be a very cool addition. But, I fear, the paddlewheel excursion days may be numbered if that is the plan. It is a ghost of its former self anyway. Maybe time to call it a day on that one.

Yeah, I hate seeing wet patrons as well. Oh, and all those smiling, laughing and otherwise happy people enjoying their day... man they irritate me. Nothing ruins a good day at the park like other people enjoying themselves.

DJ, you are right.

For a park that wants to become more family friendly this is a bad thing to have kids enjoy being wet on rides. I know the average teenager with a season pass dropped the $2,000 plus I did on my three days there last year with my family. Hell, rip the thing out for the next 1000 foot one shot wonder.

Variety is what attracts me and my family to the park. Variety is what attracts many people with disposable income.

I sure hope that the hours we spent around Snake River Falls last year wet was not a big inconvenience for those passing by. However, my two and a half year old loved running from the splash and was very animated knowing her dad, mom and older sister were on it. (Disclaimer: Two and half year old was attended by grandparents and not left alone.).

I sure hope Cedar Fair does not take away variety like this for the next one hit wonder.I know Kinzel is pretty thick in the head. I however hope he learned form the Six Flags mistakes. More importantly I hope he learns from what current management is doing to fix this at Six Flags.

Snake River Falls IS a 1-shot wonder, and it's clearly a shot that the majority at the park don't want to take. This is why it needs to be replaced by something fun for everyone that adds variety to the park...

It all comes down to how it is maintenance and attendance wise. The new wood for the pump house has nothing to do with it staying or leaving.

Yeah, they should probably take out Giant Wheel, too. I mean, all it does is go in a damn circle, and less people ride that than SRF.

Or...
Yeah, they should probably take out Thunder Canyon, too. I mean, all it does is make stupid people wet, and less people ride that than SRF.

Or...
Yeah, they should probably take out Witches' Wheel, too. I mean, all it does is go in a damn circle, and less people ride that than SRF.

Or...
Yeah, they should probably take out Wildcat, too. I mean, all it does is travel along a damn track, and less people ride that than SRF.

Notice a trend yet? A ride doesn't need to entertain a million people every season to be relevant.

And SRF does add variety, unless there's another flume in the park I'm not aware of.

I'm pretty sure SRF's deal is maintenance. That and they want another flume after taking out WWL.

According to that "logic", the only coasters they should have would be Gemini, Iron Dragon, Magnum, Millenium Force and Raptor. They are the only ones that a "majority"* of the park goers ride. There would be no flat rides OR kiddie rides, as the "majority"* of guests do not want to ride those.

* - "Majority" based on ridership and 3 million park-guests per year.

Could they replace SRF with a cooler log ride? Yes

I think SRF should just be replaced, and SRF goes to any CF park deserving a water ride.

djDaemon and JuggaLotus: AMEN

Thanks for the well needed laugh and such excellent points.

Here is one for you how about take out the Bathrooms since they do not make any profit for Cedar Point. All they do is cost them money.
