If a train holds 32 people and the train leaves the station with 2 empty seats, you immediately know that 30 people rode. Id rather count to 2 than 30. That is also more accurate than looking at the number on a turnstile since the turnstile would have counted for the two guests who walked into the station but left instead of riding.
I am having a memory of some crew member near the Magnumxl2000 booth yelling over to the person over at the top of the stairs and that person in turn yelling a number back to them. Same on Matterhorn, Iron Dragon, and likely many others.
Maybe the person in the Magnum booth is asking for the number of people that DIDN"T walk up the stairs from the other person, so he could do his calculations of ridership for the day ;)
Sit tight fellas ;)
They used to record the number every hour on the hour on the Daily Operational Report (DOR). I think they still do, but the numbers are probably a lot lower than they used to be. :)
