Smoking in the park

Clearly, you're in the right to smoke... since they don't specify you can't.

So, do they rent hookahs at the park, or should I bring my own?

Just make sure to bring the midget variety.

I can't stand it when white trash people smoke and then put up a fight in lines for rides with people when they are told nicely to put it out. They think they can get away with it because they are "poor" and they want people to feel bad for them. Some smokers think they are so "bad" when smoking. I have also seen smokers smoking right as they walk by a designated area and not go to it, while smokers who follow the rules are sitting there.

Like I said in previous posts I am a cigar smoker but I follow all the rules when smoking.

I was at the park this past weekend and on Saturday I counted at least 30 people smoking in lines and just walking around the park. I even saw someone by Blue streak smoking at the rides exit. A worker politely said please put out your cigarette and this person just laughed. I went up to guy and said why do you have to be an a-hole. The guy didnt comment and just walked away.

I've had guests throw cigarettes at me for attempting to enforce the no-smoking policy while waiting in lines. Like really? Grow up.

Shame on Cedar Point for not enforcing their rules!

If they were to do so, this problem would disappear almost entirely. It's not that hard. It's kind of like having speed limits... if cops never wrote speeding tickets, who honestly would obey the limits? There needs to be an appropriate deterrent with any law or rule to discourage the wrong behaviors.

Cedar Fair is not making this effort uniformly across their parks. Running in the park, smoking in lines, carrying booze into the park in a stroller, are all against the rules but happen often (I've done two of the three above, and smoking was not one of them!). Now Kings Island on the other hand, for Haunt, searches all bags and strollers, and individually scans people with handheld metal detectors. They will also detain you if caught running in the park (ask me how I know). And guess what? People don't run in that park nearly as much, and you can't sneak in alcohol, either!

Until something happens in the park (like a gun fight) that warrants metal detectors why spend the money. I dont think you can compare CP and Kings Island in terms of needed security. Kings Island is located in a big city where CP is in a smaller city.

GO IRISH!!

You can't compare an amusement park enforcing their rules to a police officer writing tickets to enforce the law. Everybody who is a licensed driver is aware of the speed limits and basic rules of the road. Maybe with the addition of the new entrance next year, they will add extra security to the entrance with metal detectors, along with bag searches which won't allow people to sneak in alcohol.

As MillenniumSpork has said, she has had a cigarette flicked at her for trying to enforce the rules. I've had a guest try to punch me for trying to enforce the rules. All of the employees try to enforce the rules as much they can, but guests try to impress whoever they're with and either pop off at the mouth, or do what they feel like anyways. If a guest doesn't comply with park security, they're kicked out of the park with no refund, no matter what time of the day it is. Maybe everybody would comply if they were aware of getting kicked out of the park for noncompliance. Other than that, I don't know what else you expect Cedar Point and the employees to do about these situations.

I agree with both Millenniumspork and Twisted Wicker. Employees can inform guests until their both blue in the face about the smoking policy. However, at the end of the day, there will still be guest who won't grap the concept of a "designated smoking area" or how to properly use one. It all comes down to those (smokers) who have respect for other people and those who don't. Even if employees inform guest about the policy and they put it out, all they have to do is light up another one as soon as the employee walks away. It's that simple. Yes, I agree with those who say that they need to be removed from the park. It's because if a guest line jumps and is caught, they are removed, if they steal, they are removed, etc..., so why is smoking outside of the designated areas any different. However, I do think there should be more designated smoking areas in the park. For example, if someone was by Coasters / Corkscrew / Skyride area, the nearest one would either be the one by Panda Express or Wicked Twister, which is honestly a good hike.

I was not implying that CP needs metal detectors. Far from it. But I think CP needs to have a no tolerance policy of smoking outside designated areas, like Six Flags. Remove them just like you would for line jumping.

Or, at a minimum, instead of having employees "ask" a patron to extinguish their cancer stick, have them immediately call security (whether they subsequently put it out or not). There needs to be consequences for breaking rules, or the rules are meaningless. Hence my speed limit analogy.
