Out only issue with CP is the smoking. Smokers light up anywhere they chose even in line for the rides. We ask them to put their cigs out. Sometimes they do, not always. The midway and in Oldtown the designated area signs are ignored. Smokers walking around the park just light up.
If the folks who run the park cannot enforce the rules about smoking in the park, maybe making the whole park a NONSMOKING venue is the answer and give the park visitors a number they can call to report smokers.
Nonsmokers need to fight for freedom from cigarette smoke.
I noticed that CP still sells cigarette lighters in their stores.
I agree. I was at the park on Sunday September 2 and the smoking was pretty bad. Along Frontier Trail it was really bad. I think think the issue is enforcement and consequence. If you are caught you will simply be ask to but the cigarette out. If you cut in line you can be removed from the park. Why is smoking different? The park has made the designated smoking area very comfortable with shaded areas and adirondack chairs. Something they did not need to do. If the smokers can not use these areas they should be asked to leave. Once it is known you will be removed from the park, maybe alot less people would think twice about breaking the rules.
I agree, I am a smoker myself and I never smoke in undesignated areas. I will walk out of my way for a cigarette in the designated areas if I have to. Hey, if I want to smoke I figure it's worth the walk. My husband said too many people do it in line for Top Thrill Dragster when they are waiting 2 hours to get on that ride. This is considered a family park, and yes they do have nice rocking chairs (or whatever they are) at various locations. Also they are shaded areas so it's not like CP isn't ignoring us smokers.
I just fear the ones that break the rules may just have CP go totally smoke free and make it bad for us smokers.. that's just my 2 cents.
I think CF needs to adopt Six Flags smoking policy. They, too, have designated smoking areas (even marked off with a line on the pavement indicating exactly where it starts). There are large signs when you enter the park stating that smoking outside the designated areas will result in IMMEDIATE removal from the park, NO WARNINGS, no exceptions.
And guess what... I've never seen anyone smoking outside those areas!
The smoking seems to have increased as the year has go on. It's everywhere. Saturday a guy was smoking in the breakers hot tub.
I will say I've seen many employees come up to smokers, asked them to put out their cigarettes and point them to the nearest smoking area. I've seen this much more than other years. One jerk waited for the policeman to turn around and poppoed him the finger. Then he lit up again.
Why do the smokers get the nice rocking chairs and shade? The rest of us get benches in the sun. Others parks have a gazebo for smokers. Pretty nice.
^ Let them be comfortable now in their rockers, since they'll be wailing in pain later in life from the various health ailments their habit is causing.
The other option is to not introduce a policy that you're not going to enforce just for the good PR it brings.

I agree, aside from the lack of a warning. Though I'm not sure how the park could track the warned versus the un-warned.
Some people might honestly be completely unaware of the policy. After all, when you're walking into a park (as a non-enthusiast) there's a lot of sensory overload going on. Perhaps printing the policy right on the E-ticket, having the ticket booth employee state the policy, or have a screen on the self-serve kiosks that basically forces you to agree to the "terms of use", as it were.

Cedar Point defiantly has the best smoking areas of any park I've been to...I actually enjoy going to them where at six flags the areas are terrible. The area near dinosaurs alive is is such a relaxing place to go enjoy a cigarette and relax for 20 minutes. I think it is mostly a lack of telling people they can't smoke is the reason people don't go to the areas.
^Cedar Fair in general has the nicest smoking areas out of any chain. Rocking chairs at Cedar Point, Swan Lake at Kings Island, and Dorney had some pretty nice ones too.
At least 2 years ago Busch Gardens Williamsburg would kick a patron out of the park if they were smoking anywhere near the reserve, stables, or the kids area. In 2 visits I saw 3 people escorted out of the park.

That would explain why Cedar Point has the most defiant smokers who insist on breaking the rules.

I've noticed that smoking is a big problem this year too. Just the other day a man was smoking outside the photo shop for Magnum when the worker kindly asked him to put it out since it wasn't a designated area. After asking him 5 times, he put it out. Like it was said above, I notice it a lot in lines like Maverick, Millennium and Dragster where you're there for a while.
Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
Another reason I believe that cedar point has more issues with smokers is that they have police as their security whereas six flags has security guards/trash cleanup . Not only is there at least 3 times as many security guards at six flags than police at cedar point but the security guards seize any amount of power they have over their guests where the police are looking for more serious things than someone smoking outside a smoking area.
^ Glad you have made the determination for the rest of us that 6 people in the hot tub is enough to deter you from sharing the smell and carcinogens from your cigar, but 5 people just isn't quite enough to cause you that inconvenience...
Yeah, real respectful. :rollseyes
I smoke cigars. Nothing like a good cigar and drink after a long day at the park. I agree though. There are many places to smoke in the park. I always have a cigar by the beach area at breakers that have ashtrays. I do get mad though when morons walk by giving me dirty looks. If I see people coming close by I put the cigar down and make sure to not take any puffs. But some people will still make comments.
They give you dirty looks because cigar smoke is even nastier then cigarettes. You may think that by not taking any puffs when people are in the area you are making it ok but in reality the whole area stinks the whole time. Your sense of smell is just accustomed to it.

I've seen way too many people light a cigarette in the station of a ride. I don't understand the need to smoke a cigarette that bad where you can't wait to find a smoking section.
And last time I was smoking a cigar in a designated smoking area a 300 pd person had the nerve to make rude comments to me. I just said mind your own business. I should have said something about this persons weight. I think my caual smoking of cigars is healthier than this person heart conditions!
The following is the entirety of CP's posted smoking policy:
"No smoking in the ride area (for fire prevention purposes); no smoking in the ride queues (lines) for the courtesy and comfort of other guests. SMOKING IS CAUSE FOR REMOVAL FROM THE LINE. Designated smoking areas are located near Park Plaza Gift Shop, Raptor, Panda Express, Frontier Train Station and behind Giant Wheel."
Clearly, you're in the right to smoke a cigar in a designated smoking area, since they don't specify you can't. And she could certainly leave, (if she could get up from her bench, that is). However, your comment about the woman's weight wasn't particularly logical. She wasn't spraying carcinogenic body fat over you against your will.
