Small trains, Slow line?

Wicked twister is the best value in the park for time spent in line. Its one of the best coasters in the park and it almost never has a line, and when it does it's usually no more than 15 minutes.

Exactly, so I am think that this coaster is going to have pretty quick lines as well just because of its location. It will be popular and worth the investment, but I think the lines will be constantly moving.

They're gonna have problems with the LSM? You know that already Leslie?

I doubt they have any issues that are bigger than it just being a new ride. Nothing major like TTD.

I don't think that Wildcat's line was ever that long. 10 or 15 minutes at most. They load maybe 4 at a time, but they have something like 5 cars running at once, and someone is always being loaded. The line never stops moving, because when one car leaves, another arrives and is being loaded. Plus, that ride is really, really fun.

Arguing with a coaster enthusiast is like wrestling with a pig in mud. After a while, you realize the pig enjoys it.

Website shows trains in 6 diff colors, so maybe 6 diff trains

Yes, there are 6 trains, one in each of the following colors - Silver, Gunmetal, Iron, Gold, Copper, Brass.

I'm very skeptical of the 1,200 capacity statement, just like I was skeptical of the capacity statement for MaxAir, SkyHawk, TTD, and just about everything else installed since 2000.

Those capacity numbers are now utterly meaningless (maybe even in a "theoretical" sense.)

1,200 means a train leaving the station every 36 seconds, and that's simply impossible with the way FUN approaches safety (checking, double checking, then triple checking everything.) If you're looking for a realistic capacity number to use, start with 400-500/hr and adjust from there (that's probably optimistic as well.) It will certainly be (a lot) lower than 1,200, and a lot lower than 400-500 when the ride first opens.

Hey, I heard a rumor that Top Thrill Dragster is sinking...

JuggaLotus's avatar

I don't think it'll lose that much. I don't disagree that 1200 is a bit of an overstatement, but I'd still expect it to get about 1000.

EDIT
Nevermind. I suppose I should double check my math on my days off... apparently the brain took the day off as well. :)

1200 pph
12 riders per train
100 trains in 1 hour

60 minutes/100 trains = .6 minutes/train
.6 minutes = 36 seconds.

Thank you for agreeing with me. :-)

Yeah John, I was doing some backwards math there. As it turns out, backwards math is quite different than frontwards math. Even more strange, diagonal math proves to be a hybrid of the two, producing results in Sanscrit.

Brandon

I would imagine this ride is going to have teething troubles for some time - which might account for why they have half of the track in place already; it's really not that BIG a ride; but it's an Intamin, which tend to be overly complex. So let's hope they will start testing in about mid-October ;)

IMHO, Intamin have shown that they are not good with setting up the logic for blocking systems right out the chute - look at TTD. Admittedly, if you have 6 on-track trains to deal with (like TTD was supposed to have), that's a complex problem; but a solvable one.

I'm with Leslie on this one right now - slow lines for a while. But once it gets sorted out, the capacity should be good.

I do love the ride. I'd love to have seen that canyon themeing extend for all three turns after the drop, instead of just the middle one. And as an aside, is anyone else disappointed that the animation shows a virtual stand-still before the launch? I'd really hoped for a straight-through booster. Oh well; can't have it all, I guess.

Steve

Panman,

I do like the canyons. It's going to be scary flying through those.

Yeah, once they get it together, it'll be just fine. But the beginning is usually pretty rocky.

I don't like the stand-still either; but let's hope that it's really not that bad in real life. :-)

I hope it turns out like Skyhawk this year, a run to the back of the park first thing in the morning for a couple of walk on rides. The lines in the afternoon get deadly, but that's on account of Skyhawk horrible load times. I just hope it takes people a while to realize it's back there, leaving it dead in the morning.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

TTD is Sinking too,

I agree with your view. If you look at TTD, for example. With 18 riders in a train. Even if the trains go off at the 45 second interval -- which I have never seen for more than 10 minutes at a stretch -- that maximum is 1440. In reality, at one train per minute (once again, not sustainable thus far) yields only 1080 per hour.

With 12 riders per train, 100 trains must be launched every hour to reach 1200. As has been stated, this means one train every 36 seconds. The only way CP will ever get ever remotely clost to 1200 riders per hour is if they load three trains at a time (certainly possible since that would still amount to being the equivalent of a single MF train). At that point, they would have close to 2 minutes to get the trains loaded and dispatched.

If only one train loads at a time, it will take a minimum of 60 seconds to get everyone (especially the PoES) secured on the train. This would equate to 720 riders per hour. Quite optimistic in my opinion especially before the 4th of July.

So, you were taking your math in a "whole new direction"??

djDaemon's avatar

Yes, I sure was. Its amazing what backwards math can produce. You might even call it "amazing and unprecedented".

So, what's it like, putting 2 and 2 together... BACKWARDS?
