Skyhawk Free Swing

Was anyone at around 9:45 pm when Skyhawk went into "Free Swing" mode? It was pretty sweet... One side (side 11-20) just kept swinging and swinging.... Made for pretty sweet video.... The ride operator even told everyone "that everything was alright" and then started cracking jokes. Wish I could have been on there they got about 6-7 minutes of free swing extra ride time. Is this a common occurence? *** Edited 5/7/2006 6:25:54 AM UTC by Aaron_toledo***

Yep, I was there. I think the swing rides hated me today, because Maxair did the exact same thing earlier in the day while waiting for it. It was like the motor was in neutral and the arm was just swaying back and forth until it came to it's own stop. Skyhawk did that too, but obviously there's no motor involved. As far as I know, neither ride re-opened after these problems.

skyhawk will be closed today (may 7). From cedarpoint.com

I hope they fixed both their swings by tomorrow. I won't be back until June.

Wow that's not a good sign. Skyhawk and maXair, CP's 2 newest rides, closed on the 2nd day of operation.

Did it say maXair was closed?

I haven't seen anything about Maxair, just Skyhawk. I hope they get it up and running though. I leave tomorrow morning and I'll be there Mon, Tue and Wed. Oh well, better Skyhawk than Dragster I guess.

Do you happen to have the link where it says it will be closed from Cedar Point's website?

Do they post down rides on a specific location on the website?

Maybe Rideman could go into more detail on how Skyhawk went into swing mode.

Skyhawk was one ride I did not expect to see this happen on this soon... Thats a real shame. Hopefully the upcoming week will allow the park to really get things back on track.

I was there when the "free swinging" occured. I am so pissed off right now that I wasn't on that cycle. ARRRRRRRRR

Keep in mind that it is a new ride, and the designers, engineers, and management watched the ride very closely yesterday. If they see something that they are concerned about, they're going to fix it....same thing with any ride. With this being a brand new ride, they need to take care of even the smallest glitch. The maintenance workers at CP are new to the ride and they need experience working on it. Safety, Safety, Safety....is key to the success of CP and even us HUGE CP fans need to undertand that, and be patient with it.

^ Thats what we said about TTD..........

If the giant Frisbee works like the giant top spin, then some kind of trouble in the computer's eye causes the ride's motors to stop and brakes release. I was on such a stop on Tomb Raider at PKI and we just gently went swinging until it stopped. I suppose maXair would work the same way.

And actually, perhaps Skyhawk works that way as well. The system depressurizes if it thinks something isn't right, which means it will just swing until friction stops it.

Can SkyHawk or maXair swing beyond whatever how high there supposed too? I guess with SkyHawk there's a Bar keeping it from swinging too high...

This is why I wait till later in the season to go ;)

Skyhawk started free swinging at about 9:30 in the evening. I was going to get in line but then realized that it wasn't going to stop. Same thing happened earlier to maxAir when I was in line.

I don't know why anyone would want to be on either ride while it was free swinging. I knew some people on maxAir while it was free swinging and they looked like they were going to die. It would be the same with Skyhawk, no altitude and no speed, just constant movement. I'm thankful I wasn't on having time wasted. *** Edited 5/7/2006 11:23:09 PM UTC by ejh1701***

I was on Maxair when it did its free swing the first time around 10:30 a.m. It took us about 6-7 minutes to get off. They closed it shortly thereafter.
