Six Flags Worlds of Adventure or Geauga Lake?

I'm a Cedar Fair fan but I'm going to be honest and say that I liked the park under Six Flags better. I liked their vision and aggressive attitude concerning coasters. We haven't seen one coaster since CF took over and the long awaited hyper that hasn't appeared is extremely disappointing. I dislike water parks and that's CF's direction. I have to admit that as SFWOA I bought a season pass and parking and went quite often. I visited the first year under CF and talked to Spehn and was quite excited but that has changed and I haven't been there since. I do believe that the park is going downhill and that it was better under SF. I wish they were still around. Any thoughts? Also, I read that SFWOA was supposed to be SF's top-notch park and after visiting SFMM and riding coasters like X, Goliath, and many others, I am mad SF left! It could have been great!

We have a little saying at the park: Six Flags declaired victory against Cedar Point and shipped out!

Victory in what aspect? Most trash and dirt? Most butchering of nostalgia? Worst operations and most coasters running 1-train?

I went to GL for the first time last year under the command of Cedar Fair and I'm happy with the way the park is being run now. The problem GL faces now is that they have a park built for a large capacity of people yet they are seeing the numbers they had back when it was the old Geauga Lake.

You're not going to see any new coasters being built at that park until the attendance figures tell you that they are needed. When I visited the park, every ride had one train running which sounds terrible until you realize that it was only a station wait for the bigger rides and a walk-on for the smaller rides. What made this worse is that I visited on a Sunday in August! The park should be jam packed with people and it isn't.

I think the park is going in a great direction, We are constantly reminded that if we were to stay with SFI, we might've been sold to a realitor, or sold to a less than desirible company, or we could've been bought by the great AB. So Im glad we're with Cedar Fair.

I agree that no more coasters will be seen until the attendance figures pick up. CF is taking GL in a great direction, because while SF added new coasters they neglected the rest of the park. It is somewhat of a problem how the park was built for a huge capacity, but has very low attendance figures. I love GL, and it is a great family park.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Geauga Lake is so much nicer now that it is under Cedar Fair operation. Everything was in such sad shape when I was there under the management of Six Flags.

Really? I remember going back there when it was six flags and the park was ok. I have the option of going to Kennywood or Geauga and if you say this is true, I might just pick Geauga lake.

Kennywood has better rides it looks like form their website, and plus a more classic park instead of the CP coaster metropolis style, which isnt bad, but nothing like it used to be in it's early years before Magnum was built.

It's Geauga Lake now and it's going to stay that way.

I wish everyone would just get over SFWOA

Exitenglish, you must have missed the note of sarcasm in my post, as they clearly did not have a victory in any sense.

I went to six flags three times. All three times, the park was
crowded both ride and wildlife side. This was even on a rainy
day. When i went to ride any ride, there was actually people
in line and i had to wait. There was never a train with only
6-10 people. The only thing i can figure out is people are
not happy since the wildlife side is gone. Geauga lake is a
fine park and i wish more people would come and enjoy. I
would not expect to see a new coaster until business picks
up a-lot. I am planning to go on memorial day. I hope a-lot
of people visit and enjoy the park. I would really hate to
see cedar fair decide sometime to close the park, because
they are losing money. I would also hate to see a empty
piece of land or a shopping mall being built there.

Personally, I'd rather visit a park with a few good coasters, that is clean, than a park with a ton of roller coasters that is not. I think I'd take Geauga Lake in the Cedar Fair years over SFWoA/Geauga Lake in any of the Six Flags years.

Cedar Fair, by no means, is losing money. They are posting year to year increases in income and the company is very financially sound. If Geauga Lake isn't doing well enough, the amount CF rakes in from CP and Knott's is more than enough to make it up. They will not sell this classic family park, but they dont see a need to add rides. You may also think that CF has neglected Michigan's Adventure because it has yet to add another major ride there, but it doesn't make any financial sense to do so when their main focus is on CP and Knott's as of right now.

SO heres the deal guys. Geagua Lake, pre-SFWOA and pre re-Geauga Lake was fine before six flags touched it. Most of you dont remember the charm and delightfulness of the simple area amusement park. It displayed tradition and family oriented fun while still delivering thrills. We had CP for the big stuff. GL was cheaper and closer than CP for a lot of us. I personally think the Six Flags move was a bad choice. I was exicted for new rides (Batman/Dominator is my favorite at the park now) but i knew it would loose it's charm when the ticket prices soared. When six flags moved it, they brought a lot of new customers, ones that didnt appreciate what was there and stomped all over it. Trashing it, making it unsuitable for people who actually care.

SO It was never an issue of the now Present day Geauga Lake or Six Flags Worlds of Adventure.... It is clearly the old fashioned neighborhood Geagua Lake.

Love ya cedar fair!

The only reason SF was so crouded is because alot of season passes were coming in, plus in 2000 SF put in 4 coasters in.

Anyone who acts like Six Flags brings in its own "bad crowd" everywhere loses all credibility in my book. Come on, Six Flags isn't a disease and immediately trying to trash everything it does makes you look like an ignorant Cedar Point fanboy. Saying Six Flags always recruits messy and rude people is ridiculous because they're the same people that have always gone to Geauga Lake. In fact, if anything it's currently less with attendance down. Six Flags had something. I don't remember this mystique to the old Geauga Lake that Six Flags supposedly destroyed.

Yes, Doctor Culex

I went there once in 2001 when it was SF:WOA and the park sucked. The Ride Ops weren't doing their jobs (on Dominator and Mind Eraser I had to check my own harness). The park was dirty, a majority of the other employees were rude. I went to a food stand and waited 45 min. from the time I ordered to get my food and the wild life side was dirty so someone please remind me how the park was better then than it is now?

editors note: I am looking for reasons other then the fact that they had the animals

Me, miss sarcasm? naaaaaaaaaaaaaaw never.

I was just going right along with it.

Two things. Der six flags was crowded, I pretty much just said that. And it doesn't matter if it's the season passes or not, More people were coming, and more people disrespecting the park. And who cares about investing 40 million dollars. If it's gonna change the look and feel and atmosphere in a negative way, which it did and i will get to that in a second, then in my eyes, it was not worth it.

Ahhh....let me see, let me see.. How can i go about this..
1, You are one person out of thousands, loosing credibility wont make me loose sleep at night.

2, I do remember what the park was like. I've pretty much lived around here all my life and remember both CP and GL from a very young age.

3, Yes the crowd did change. You know how i know? Because i was there, and saw it with my own eyes.

4, An ignorant CP Fanboy huh? I have so much knowledge and respect for Cedar Point, Geagua Lake and Seaworld, i was upset to see things go the way they did.

And anyone who says that doesn't remember Geauga Lake prior to the Six Flags acquisition in 1995 (when the company still went by Premier Parks). You also sound like someone who hasn't been to any other Six Flags parks. I visited six on Burke's watch, and that was quite enough.

If Six Flags was doing such a great job, they wouldn't have gone from a combined 3 million visitors to fewer than 1 million.
