Well this was my first ever solo trip to Cedar Point. I made the 7 1/2 hour drive up from southern Kentucky in about 10 hours due to the NASCAR traffic on I-71, but alas I bunked at my dad's south of Cleveland and awoke bright and early on the 10th on a mission. I had made reservations for the Hotel Breakers on my way up to Ohio, and since they had quite a few rooms left I figured it wasn't supposed to be too busy on Sunday.

I arrived at the Breakers at about 7:30 a.m. and got my discounted park ticket. At this point, I still wasn't sure whether I wanted to stay an extra day on Monday, but that would be decided later in the evening. I parked my rental in the lot overlooking the Corkscrew and walked with my McDonald's breakfast to the resort entrance. I was the second party in line and we all just parked ourselves on the sidewalk and ate...and listened to the ramblings of some "pro" who was chatting up the ticket taker in a "Single Rider" shirt. Post trip research would reveal this guy to be “Single Rider 2 Orange Shirt Guy."

They let us through the turnstile at about 8:50 and held us up just forward of the Magnum bridge. After the National Anthem was played it was a mad dash to Maverick for me and a few other willing participants in the throng of park-goers. One little kid and two marathon runners (I'm assuming) beat me to the Maverick queue, but I was still able to get on the first train of the day. A motivational speech about beating all others and having iron wills blared over the loud speaker from the Spiel guy and off we went. This was my first ride ever on Maverick and it did NOT disappoint. From the initial launch to the horseshoe roles this coaster makes you feel like there is no way the train will be able to stay on track with the challenging twists. After we debarked the running crew hit the frontier trail toward the number 1* roller coaster in the world. Part II to come.
