I want to work at CP next summer but I think I'd rather not stay in employee housing. If I rent an apartment in Sandusky, can I still ride the employee shuttle bus to the park on workdays? Where exactly is the employee housing and the bus stop? Any idea where the closest apartments would be? Are there areas of Sandusky to avoid living in?
It's none of my business, but why wouldn't you want to live with the people that you will be working your tail off with? If you have an employee ID, you can ride blue thunder. I'm sure that hasnt changed. There are apartments nearby (meaning within a mile or 2), but most aren't going to accommodate a lease that has so many options added to it. But the shuttle wont be finding you there. Sandusky gets a bad rap as far as an area to live, but I wouldn't never leave anything unlocked. I've watched the local kids ripping off CP housing simply by hopping the fence. Especially early in the season when there are plenty of new people who don't know better not to bring stuff and when everyone is scheduled to work 9-5 during workcrew . Try the sandusky register.
Personally, housing was the best part of working at CP for me because you meet so many people. The more people you meet and get along with, the better experience you will have. Those who are shy, normally won't last long. Because it is, have no doubt about it, a long summer. And nothing makes you feel better than being around a couple thousand people that know how you feel on bad days. Its something that only a fellow employee would understand.
People complain about the conditions, but they are really not that bad at all. People are just used to Mom being around to fix things. And sometimes roommates need to be trained how to clean up after themselves. Once that is done, problems are rare.

The main reason I want to live offsite is that I'm married and my husband and I both want to work at CP next summer... is there such a thing as married employee housing???
I swear there is some sort of option for couples housing...I had a roommate this season who moved out so she could live with her husband. I never found out if she ended up being able to live with him, though.
Also, living at CP housing is a thousand times cheaper

I would really prefer employee housing, as long as it has A/C!!! :))) I guess I'll ask them next year when we apply... thanks!!
The commons dorms are the only option with AC. I lived there this season, and it really came in handy

As of two years ago there were a few rooms available in the 1500's building at Commons for married couples, as a couple I know stayed in one. It was a regular sized room, but had one larger bed (either full or queen size) instead of the two bunk beds. They did have to show a marriage certificate in order to get the room. Not sure if the rooms still exist, but it would be a good idea to ask.
