I guess CP had Christmas in the park in the past and for only one year. I know that some other parks such as Kings Island, Dollywood, Hershey Park and Silver Dollar City have stayed open until the end of December and was curious as to whether CP would ever try this again. The "would you ride a coaster in the winter" forum showed that the yes' beat the no's by a little less than a 2-1 margin. I think a CP winter fest or holiday fest or whatever holiday time name, would be a lot of fun. Polar express, rides (those that can run in winter), winter holiday decorations, Charlie Brown's Christmas on Ice, other shows, hot cocoa next to the fire pit(s)...maybe watch the Space Spiral drop at midnight on New Years eve. Have any of you ever been to the other parks during this time? Was it fun?
hah not to sound rude...
...but i can't think of a worse way to spend nye than watching space spiral drop on a midway in the middle of lake erie on december 31.
It would have to be lucrative for cedar point to add something new...and i hardly think this is that.
Cutting hours, shows, services, and employees doesn't seem like they are willing to 'expand' in such a way.
Hey Live Entertainment! I don't work for CP, just a big fan that was wondering what the other CP fans were thinking about this. I'm not starting a debate, just a happy exchange of thoughts on this topic. PKI revived wintefest and I wondered if CP may ever do the same. Just a thought. Hey, don't forget to have fun! See ya on the midway....
Live E has a point though. While it would be fun for some people to go to, I don’t see this happening again, at least not in the near future. Now a few years from now when the fourth water park is open and winter business around Sandusky is up, then maybe I can see Cedar Point looking into this again. But not now.
Did anyone go to winter fest down at PKI? I didn’t go but I was wondering what kind of turnout they had.

Maybe when we see those intense effects of "Global Warming" we've all been hearing so much about... ;)

To me if that is the "worst" place to be then you don't seem much of a fan of Cedar Point. Yes, maybe there's other places that you would prefer better, but it would definitely not be the worst place to be.
I would love christmas at Cedar Point, all the things Bender mentioned I think would be awesome. I am not saying that they would do it, I'm saying I would love it if they did.
Arms down, head back, and hold on.....
Might not be the worst place, but have you ever been to Cedar Point in the middle of winter, at night, outside? Not a winter wonderland.
They could turn disaster transport into Santas Sleigh Ride to Alaska.
With the ride Ops dressed like Elves!
wasnt the carousel the only thing going during the first (only) cp xmas event?
I don't know how it would go over up there but here in Tennessee it's Dollywood's Christmas is the best time of the year and is the busiest time of the year for the park, but it isn't near as cold here in the hills of Tennessee as it is in Sandusky. If Cedar Point were to do something for christmas I guess I would have to go.Anyone thinking the Christmas thing would be a bad idea needs to make a trip my way and we will go to Dollywood in December, talk about bringing the magic back to Christmas it really does. But other than Christmas it's CP for me.
I definitely enjoy Cedar Point.
But a midway in the middle of winter in the middle of the night is NOT my idea of fun...no matter how many ride ops are dressed up as Santa.
If ANYTHING...perhaps the festivities at Castaway Bay will be expanded for Christmas and/or New Year's Eve.
It makes a bit more sense, considering it's already staffed and already has guests.
I think it would have to be more like Christmas/Winter displays and events around everywhere (and thus more for locals). Just a place to go, see light displays, maybe snow sculptures, maybe a ride or two is open (take the train back to Santa's village aka Frontier Town), have some Hot Cocco and a little shopping. Something for locals to take the kids and have fun for a night... like ~1 hour away, not a huge destination event.

Heres the thing:
All the parks where this is successful are theme parks. Kings Island, Dollywood....these are parks that are naturally gorgeous, and easily accented by lights and decorations, etc...Busch Gardens in WIlliamsburg. Cedar Point is just not this...in my opinion. Its never going to win any award for its looks, or its landscaping...not that its bad, at all; its very clean, and what is there is nice, but CP is about the rides, and the thrill, and to be successful at some x-mas thing its all about the look...and the feel. And thats an animal that CP just wont ever be, at least not for the forseeable future.
Its a give and take. Do you want a replica of the Eiffel Tower in your park, or Raptor......pretty flowers everywhere and little animals carved out of bushes everywhere, or Millenium Force.
I have never been to a park that has both, nor do I think it exists.
It was extreamly popular at kings island this christmas. And the weather is very cold there as well.
There was a christmas in the park event at henry ford musium in michigan, and it was extreamly popular. There were tons of things to do like shop, eat, ride the antiqe cars and merry go round. All of it was outside.
There could be plenty of things you could possibly do at cp durring christmas. Here are a few ideas.
Disaster transport themed to christmas.
Midway market and donut time open.
Cenntenial theater show, and good times theater ice shows.
Collusium arcade.
Midway carasel(sp).
Space spiral.
A few kiddy rides.
Lots of gift shops.
Sky ride themed to a ski lift.
Matterhorn.
Bumper cars.
Sleigh rides down the frontier trail.
Sit with santa in a millennium force car and get your picture taken.
Transform the picnic pavilion into a childrens activity area.
Deck the park out with christmas lights and decorations.
Have christmas carolers all over the park.
Have the antiqe cars open.
Open all the shops on the frontier trail.
Have shows at the red garter.
Have some of the games area open.
Have cedar downs open.
Have the train do somthing like kings islands did this christmas.
These are just a few things I can think of doing at cedar point durring the christmas season. Kings island did it with no major rides open, and they did so well that they will be running it again this next christmas.
If cedar point were to do this, I would pay to get in to check it out.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
But some of those things couldn't happen.
And staffing for all you said above would be hard to get. It's hard to get staffing in October, now tell them they have to work in 20 degree weather. It would be nice to see this return, but I really don't think it will. At least not anytime soon. If anything their waiting to see if it works at PKI and for business to pick up at the local water parks.
if they were to do something like this-i couldn't picture them going past the frontier trail. i think it would be a lot like trick-or-treat night and end around coasters drive-in. its a cool idea, but getting the staffing would just be too hard and i don't think cedar point would be willing to pay for that anyways.
