Well other then the necessities and the obvious must haves, I always bring a few things to try and give the feel of my room at home, like a few posters, pictures of friends, and some other small things from my room. A must have for me is a stereo, so you might want one of them. Anything else I need that I might have forgotten I just go home to get it since I only live 2 hours away. Im sure Lee will have some good ideas;)

a t.v., lot's of books(to hear her sing by d.j. kingsbury is a great one!) food-cause sometimes you just can't trust miegers or the pharm's food. trust me i used to work at both places-phone cards if you don't have a cell phone-a computer-cause waiting just to get one when everyone supposed to have 30 minutes(which turns more like into 2 hours)
How about some sort of hamper or laundry bag for dirty clothes? Seems like a lot of people don't think of that...

Laundry baskets do come in handy and don't forget a fan (unless you plan on getting an A/C room at Commons dorms)..

A real phone with an answering machine is always nice!!! A stereo or CD player is always fun!! Yeah ummm hmmm there are lots of things!! Check out what Lee said! Those will help alot!

Oh! You just made me think of something I haven't said yet. I got this really, really cool laundry basket from Meijer for about $9 my first season at the Point. My roommate had one, and I was so impressed I had to get one, too. It's this huge wire-framed hamper with mesh all around the sides, and has three divisions on the inside for sorting clothes. It also has a nice carrying strap so you can haul it, hands free, back and forth from the laundry room, plus a nice little pocket for quarters and dryer sheets. The best thing is that it folds flat so you can store it practically anywhere when you're not using it. Super convenient! I've gotten all kinds of comments from random people about its potential for handiness.

It comes in this small plastic package, and you can find it hanging on the wall by the laundry tubs and so forth -- the picture on the front of the package should help you to identify what it is, since it doesn't look like what it really is all folded up in the package.

Lee - I love reading your posts. They always include something insane that makes me laugh. Now I might just have to go buy a mesh hamper so I can experience this potential for handiness and receive comments as well.

Let me ask you all a question, for the rooms without A/C, why not just bring your own damn window unit? Plug her in and your all set.

The dorm fridge is a good idea, as a fan is as well, perhaps one of those 29$ 5 inch televesion sets and a $30 clock radio that has a cd player built in.

Lee has a rather exhaustive list that should be read, I think he covers the subject well!

Lee is a she...also known as Lisa, from the glorious domain of Park Admissions. (Why does everyone on this board think I'm a guy?! Lee is a unisex nickname, I suppose... ^_^) No offense taken, of course!

OK... since I already have a reputation of being a cynic, I feel the need to point out some harsh realities.

Don't bring anything that is very dear to your heart or cannot be replaced. (Leave Grandma's quilt at home)

Don't bring anything you don't want to share. That includes your computer, TV, toothbrush.

and remember you will have aproximately 4 cubic feet of personal property space, and everything must be stowed in the overhead compartment prior to closing the dorm room door.

I would also recommend things that can be easily washed or are waterproof.

Well, if you put stuff away, or lock it up so people can't touch it or use it when you're not around (toothbrush sharing...? gak!!!), you'll likely not run into that many problems. Jon's right though, don't bring stuff that you're too overly fond of, because accidents do happen, and things at CP that aren't chained or superglued to the floor have a tendency to get up and walk away if you don't keep an eagle eye on them (especially if your roommates get fired and figure they'll "get back" at CP by freeloading off the stuff in your apartment while everyone isn't home... I still wonder how much that el cheapo Housing-provided TV was worth at the pawn shop...).

In the proper use of the english language the word man can be used to refer to both sexes. In any event who cares what sex Lee is, HIS information is valid, lol!
