Hi!
I just got hired for the position of Cashier/Shop Assistant. I don't know anything specific yet, as where exactly I will be working and such, but I'd like to know if there is anybody who knows something about this job. What's the possibility of working more than 35 hours per week? I know that lifeguards can easily get more than 60 hours/week but what about me?
I was reading some older posts and everybody is either in food service or is working as a ride host but I couldn't find anything about this position so any information will be appreciated :)
Who interviewed you? It sounds like merchandise to me, but I've not heard sales associates referred to in that term.

I am going via Work and Travel program (I'm from Europe) and I got interviewed by somebody directly from Cedar Point (using Skype). They were offering many different jobs such as ride host, game host, housekeeper, lifeguard etc but I have been offered this position. I have NO ide what to expect
But you did work in the shop right? How was it?
Yes, I was a team leader last season in a shop. I will be again this season, and it's really fun, if that is the job they offered you, you'll be happy in merchandise. Working in a store (shop) is very rewarding, you do ring up sales on cash registers, but that's only one part of the job. Helping our guests is your main responsibility, such as locating a size of a t-shirt, answering questions about what we sell. Also helping put new merchandise out for sale. Don't worry though, your team leader will show you how things are done, and don't hesitate to ask your team leader or supervisor questions about your job. They will be happy to help you whenever you need it. As far as hours are concerned, usually you'll average 40-50 per week, depending on attendance. Cedar Point gets very busy in July and August, so you could have many more hours. Sometimes people want days off and if you're able, you can pick up extra hours.

Wow, thank you so much for all the information!
This is the description of my position:
"Sells merchandise at either gift shops or outdoor carts. Responsible for ringing up sales on cash register and counting out correct change."
So it looks like you may be my supervisor :)
I was hired just for the short period of time (July-September) so I really won't mind any extra hours. I'm a little bit nervous about the language, I've been working in English-speaking countries before but I've never actually got an opportunity to communicate with people. I'm really excited though :)
Can't wait for this year's summer!
If you speak as well as you type you should be fine! Best word of advice for any retail position is to relax, have fun and do your best to help the customer. Patience is a godsend as well.
