I tried to ride this on Sunday - but, being the reliable ride that it is.... I gave up after a while of boats not moving, and some riders being stuck at the base of lift #1.

It's a shame, too. I wanted to show Amber how "exciting" the ride is.

Are you sure the boats weren't moving?

They were all backed up at the bottom of the lift, and outside the station. It's weird how they got there, though - because I didn't see them moving. I saw them, but I didn't see motion

^ That's weird because when I'm there, It's running fantastic!

Closed today Shawn, too chilly I guess and I was ready to ride it. Wondering if it was open this past Friday during that 90 degree sweltering heat? Would have been nice then.

^it was not. Well when I went over trying to ride it, the sign said the ride was closed but was running with people? Who knows. The ride op didn't seem to know why either.

How many years has this ride been open now?

I'm guessing by now they should have at least a full season worth of operation on the books.

What I don't understand is WHY it is always broken down. Two lift hills and a trough of water can't be that hard to maintain can it?

It's an Intamin ride, no further explanation needed.

I'm assuming the "hi-tech" design?

One thing I'm curious about on these rides is the glass-looking objects near drops and what not with wires attached. Is this some form of sensor?

Maybe Shoot the Rapids can learn from Gemini how to operate two lift hills.

You spelled "Pipe Scream" wrong...

Even though Shoot the Rapids has had it's difficulties, I think it's right up there with Top Thrill Dragster with mechanical issues.

Excuse my ignorance, but how can one screw up a water ride that bad, resulting in as many mechanical difficulties that Shoot The Rapids has had? The sensors on TTD alone cause such down time, but how many sensors does STR have? How difficult is it to have working pumps to get the boats to the lift? How difficult is it to have a functional lift hill? (Or in terms of STR, 2 lift hills). I just do not understand why this ride has had so many issues. Yes, Intamin is the issue here, but I just don't get it.

There are always unforeseen issues. On paper, the most recent Blue Man show in Vegas seemed like a sure thing, but when put on stage in front of an audience, the show fell short and had to be redone.

They're still a thing? Wow. Is "Stomp" their opener?

:)

How can you screw up a water ride? By trying to re invent it, which is something that Intamin excels at. They have proved time after time that they over engineer everything that have built for Cedar Fair, and at the same time ignore some basic laws of physics (displacement, among others). Why they kept buying from them should have been open to an investigation.

Stomp, schomp -- Blue Man rolls with messages on LED screens, circa 1998, as their opener. :-)

Last time I saw Blue Man Group was in New York my junior year of high school. They launched a big piece of jello mold into the audience, and it almost hit me in the head.

I agree Intamin tries too hard to reinvent and over engineers their rides. But I just don't see what is so different from STR and SRF & TC. There must be too much going on in terms of technology, for such a sub par ride.
