Shoot the Rapids is being removed!

What exactly would they add with a soak city expansion? Seems they have the usual water park stuff minus a surf board ride. Not sure what else I'd like to see them add that's not already in there.

I'm wondering if they would put a dark ride at the back of the park where they are clearing out challenge park. I don't think there is enough space for one where STR was if rip cord is there, but there is a lot of room in challenge park.

World Record slides? I haven't been to SC in years, so I don't know what they even have.

My favorite water park ride was the inner tube rapids that Dover Lake had. Think Thunder Canyon for individual riders. It was a lazy river that wasn't so lazy.

Let's see, they currently do not have any of the "tornado" or similar bowl slides that are very popular. These new slides with the trap doors are also all the rage. A second wave pool? Most larger waterparks have 2. An action river to compliment the lazy river. A large water coaster (Master Blaster)... There a plenty of options. Soak City is actually a pretty sparse and outdated waterpark compared to many other waterparks in the CF chain and elsewhere. Just look at what Holiday World has added the past decade or even what they are adding to KI or Carowinds this off season. Personally, I would love to see a water coaster like Mammoth at Holiday World.

^ Wildebeest was my favorite there.

I found both of HW's watercoasters to be pretty underwhelming. But maybe it's just me. I still enjoyed them but I didn't think they were worth a second ride. I love Zinga. Heyena Falls was also suprisingly fun and it is out in the middle of nowhere so I just kept reriding without any wait. I don't think I will ever visit Soak City again even if they expand it. I'm just not a waterpark fan. Splashin Safari is the only waterpark I feel a desire to visit. IMO why go to a waterpark when you have a coaster mecca beside it. I understand the whole family destination appeal but that just isn't for me.

Actually, Soak City does have the action river, as well as the lazy river. In fact, it is one of the few water parks that does have two lazy/action rivers. They could stand to install some of the trap door slides, a second wave pool, and a tornado, or funnel, slide. And some additional rest rooms, too.

Ripcord is boring and dated. A 300' sky coaster would be better.

Just send Ripcord to Michigan's adventure... Oh wait, they already have one of those too.

Isn't Ripcord a Skycoaster?

If they move Rip Cord into the park, I hope they don't put it anywhere near the Frontier Trail. It would look horribly out of place and be an eye sore.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I think eventually we will see Dinos Alive gone. I think that space along with the freed up space that STR currently takes up will provide a nice new area of the park.

^^ I'm with Pete on this one. Everyone got their wish of Shoot the Rapids being removed. I hope everyone is happy now. On a second note, I hope they fill that area more than just Ripcord otherwise it's going to look very out of place.

I'd rather have STR sit there and be a non-functional scenic piece than some concrete pad and some steel towers.

I have a question for those of you who think a Soak City expansion should take place. Will a Soak City expansion make that big of a difference in attendance/revenue? In my opinion, most of the guests that go are from the resorts or platinum pass holders. I think guests will go to S.C., regardless of what attractions there are. There's no outdoor water park competition nearby and it's not like it's connected with the park. The people that want to go to S.C., probably will go regardless of the changes that are made.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

That's no reason to neglect your water park. Cedar Point is trying to bill itself as a multi-day resort destination and that's not going to happen with an aging water park. It doesn't cost a lot, relatively speaking, to update a water park (as opposed to amusement park rides/roller coasters) so why not take a year out of expenditures and update your 'second-day' park so people have a reason to stay, well, a second day.

Maybe since rip cord is a sky coaster they will call it a roller coaster. Worked for pipe scream

First ride; Magnum 1994

The park can call Pipe Scream a coaster as much as they want to, but it doesn't change the fact that it is not a roller coaster.

Is wicked twister a roller coaster then?

By design- pipe scream rolls and coasts.

IF they are relocating RipCord to inside the park, and IF they want to do it over the lagoon (although again, there are so many better ways to use the lagoon)...there is a nearly equal part of land on the opposite side of the lagoon from STR...the location where Dinos Alive starts and ends...where Paddle Wheel used to be.

That's a much more highly travelled area and would fit the (lack of) theme of RipCord better.

Do what's been suggested here already, with the towers on MF island, and have it swing out towards the TTD tower.

Actually, there is nowhere near the same amount of space. Ripcord has a pretty big footprint, so trying to find space for it inside the park is a bit of a challenge. Which is all I was doing, by the way. Just building on the speculation that they are redistributing the Challenge Park and engaging in the thought exercise of how they would do that. In this case, I thought this particular idea looked like it might actually work pretty well. It does seem to fit into the landscape and create a nice looking experience. Which seems to be something they've been trying to focus on lately. Whether it makes sense from a business perspective, I have no opinion.

This is what I was thinking:
