Hello All!
I worked at Cedar Point previously from 1995-98 in what was then the Food Operations Commissary. I was living in Michigan at the time during the off season, but moved to Tennessee in October of 1999 for another job.
Without boring all of you with the details of my life, I will just say that there have been a lot of changes and I find myself wanting to return to Sandusky. Possibly even staying to live in the area year around now, for a fresh start. I really enjoy not only Cedar Point, but the city of Sandusky as well.
I filled out an application online toward the end of January and submitted it. When I did so I said that I would take any position offered to me, but that I preferred to work in Food Operations, specifically the Commissary where I did before. I am not a huge fan of handling money on the job, it makes me nervous, so food prep was and still would be ideal for me.
I also stated that I would be willing to start in the beginning of April, as I know Commissary workers (and some in other places) used to be brought in early, only working during the week and not on weekends to prepare for the season.
So far I have heard nothing, a little discouraging at this point. I called Human Resources to see if I could speak with someone in Foods directly about my application, but was told to just keep checking the status of it online, then hung up on.
This was frustrating as I know the first time I was hired in '95 one of the things that impressed those who hired me, was my persistence in following up on my application status. I was told that showed them I really wanted the job.
So I have been getting a little frustrated until I got to thinking, I am basing what I thought would take place off of the way things were done 16 years ago! Pretty crazy indeed.
Now that I have found this forum however, I have some questions in that regard. I notice that Food Operations is now called Food Services, and wonder what other changes have been made.
Does the commissary even exist anymore? It used to be inside the Food Operations warehouse. It was where all of the sandwiches, caramel apples, fudge, funnel cake and corn dog batters ect that were sold and used at the stands, in some of the restaurants, and the employee cafeteria were prepared.
If the commissary is still around, are people still brought in early to prepare for the season?
It occurred to me that if I applied asking for something that is no longer available, this could be a very good reason why I have not heard anything. Either that or at 33 years old, I'm too old to work at Cedar Point now, and I don't think that is the case!
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance and have a brilliant day!
Hello, i am not familiar with the commissary that you are preferring to, which means they may not have it, in your application, online which job you are are applying for, being that it is only my second year here, i cant help you on that specific question, but what i would do is keep checking and calling, i will tell you that most of the people that you find on here are either new to cedar point or have not worked that for more than 5 years but there are a few veterans that may be able to fully answer your question, i myself really dont know, so i wont tell ypu the wrong thing, but i can say either they got rid of it or it may be call something besides the commissary, hope this helps you out a little but dont get discouraged and they do hire ppl your age so i doubt if that would be an issue.

So the commissary still does exist, maybe not in the form you remember it as. That shouldn't be the problem.
In regards to your age, they SHOULDN'T discriminate based on your age. This is illegal and all employers no that. Unless CP has some BFOQ's (Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications) I don't know about, it isn't your age.
I would call the food services office. The number is 419-627-2324. The area manger for the Kitchen/Commissary/Catering is Brian Poloski. John Taylor is the Department Manager for that Dept.

Trust me, the thing about my age was just a joke. Sorry if it was not taken that way, and I offended anyone. I know Cedar Point would never do that. A lot of love for the park and the city of Sandusky here.
John Taylor, as in Red? If that is Red, I have worked for him previously and would look forward to doing so again . It would be nice to see a face I know for sure, if I do end up getting hired.
Regardless I will be giving the food services office a call Monday, to see what I can find out. Thank you for all of your help. Here's to hoping I will be there this season!
Charde, sweet Jesus...that was quite the run-on sentence you posted up there!

Thank you so much for the help thus far arcpsup, much appreciated!
Now a couple other questions for everyone, hoping I am hired so I can be prepared...
1. Are there any type of WIFI services available for employees?
I am a contributing writing for a sports free lance journalism website, and would like to continue that as much as possible. Also, recently a good friend of mine started his own website, that I have been helping him with.
So I would like WIFI service if possible in my spare time. I am willing to pay for the privilege if needed, though free is always nice of course.
2. Many of you will probably laugh at both the question and the reasoning here, but I wanted to know if there are any single bedrooms available in employee housing now?
I don't mind sharing, an apartment not in the least. In fact some of my old CP roomates remain some of my best friends to this day. But, and like I said feel free to laugh if need be, I have no shame, I honestly have a huge problem snoring at times. I have tried everything (even surgery) to take care of it too, and nothing seems to help. Not joking at all when I see it can be quite horrible. So even a single bedroom in a shared apartment might be more ideal with those I am with.
It doesn't bother me to share at all, but just thinking of potential future roomates here and their sleep. I had heard something about the possibility of single rooms in the old Rotunda, not sure how much of that was fact and how much was rumors.
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
1. There is WiFi in the Rec center and the lobbies of all the dorms. The chances of it working when you need it to might not be that great. There is always the option of heading into the park to Donut Time last I knew they had WiFi. Also, the McDonalds on the causeway has WiFi. It won't be the most convenient thing to get ahold of but, it's doable.
2. The chances of a single room are pretty much zero. I had some random roommates who stole stuff so I'm thinking a little snoring isn't the worst scenario. I'm not sure how Bayside rooms work but I'm pretty sure you will at least have one roommate.
