Security at CP vs other parks

I was online investigating a trip to Six Flags over Georgia. While searching for info on that park, I read several disturbing posts about lack of security and people feeling very unsafe in the park. There were numerous reports of vehicles being broken into in the parking lot. I know the area around that park is alot different than CP, but was wondering if there have been any problems like that at CP. I've always felt safe at CP and never worried about anything happening to me or my belongings.

Also, for those on here who have visited other parks, how does CP rate against other parks in terms of security? Anyone know anything about Six Flags over Georgia?

Like any large parking lot, there is only so much the park can do. I've never personally had any problems though, either in the park or the lot.

That story came to mind when I read this post. At KI, my brother's wallet was stolen one time. Ironically he now works as a police officer for the park. To be honest, I feel a lot more safe at Cedar Point than in other parks. They get less of an urban crowd at CP because it's not located near any cities. Don't read into that too much. It's just that the most crime-ridden places are large cities, and CP has the benefit of not being really close to any big cities.

Wow! I didn't see anything about that yet. That's pretty bad PR for the park since 3 of the 5 were employees.

I don't feel unsafe at CP. If I did I would bring my own protection.

Most of it is how smart you are about things. Say you leave a laptop case (with the laptop in it) and a 40gig Ipod video in your back seat where anybody walking by could see it chances are somebodys going to try and get lucky.

At KI they have metal dectectors at point of entry while CP does not, which was always a little unsettling to me....

I feel safe for the most part at most parks...I know leaving CP at night sometimes (especially from the back by like Maverick) can be a little creepy!

If anyone remembers Maverick's opening day, that night at like 10:00 pm my girlfriend and I were leaving from Maverick to the front lot on the east side and the midway was a ghost town!! Magnum was down (because of earlier in the day), Camp Snoopy was closed, Gemini wasn't running, BUT a lot of the games were still open and the game people were yelling at my girlfriend, well, she totally got freaked out by the whole scene and took off running to Dragster where more people where around (my girlfriend got attacked once so I really can't blame her).

However, her mood got better when we got 3 wait-less Raptor rides on our way out! That was still creepy...

Were they being rude or offensive, or was it just the typical carny banter that games people use?

Last time I went, I stayed after park closing for Maverick, and after i got off, it really was a ghost town back there. It's really really spooky being in the park all alone. I thought it was really cool though. Another one of those moments I just had to cherish.

^Same here....being spooky/creepy is a lot different than feeling unsafe. There are places in the park that seem that way at night because of lighting and lack of people moving through them, but several reports about SFoG were written by people who truly felt unsafe because of activities going on in the park. This is what concerned me.

Maybe a dumb question, but why would the longer belt make you feel unsafe. I understand if there wasn't a belt....

I think DVO had it right by location. Lets just say there are a ton of people who get nervous (feel unsafe) just because everyone around them is a different race, color, etc. It's a shame but true. I admit I don't walk on the wrong streets at night most places, but at an amusement park I feel safe always.

There are metal detectors that you walk through at Canada's Wonderland, too. It's probably true for all former Paramount parks, not just KI or CW.

Earlier this summer on one of our visits to Geauga Lake, my husband and I noticed a ladies' purse just sitting on the front seat of her car. Didn't look like any windows had been broken or anything, but then again, we ended up moving our car to WWK lot later in the day so we don't know if anything ever happened.

I have always felt Safe at Cedar Point. In fact I have to tell you that Cedar Point has the best and friendliest group of Visitors I have ever came across. We were at the park this summer, enjoying the rides and having a great time. We were coming back to our car and noticed that it was leaning...I at some point driven over a nail and my tire was leaking air as we were getting some "air" time of our own. Never the less...I sat with a flat tire. A group of 20 something guys that were parked close to us noticed me in tears...The all jumped into motion and helped me get the "donut" on my car and helped me put the flat back in the car.

They then mentioned that I should hit Wal-mart the next morning and get it fixed.

When I offered them money for fixing my tire...they DID NOT Accept it. They said "Anybody would've done the same thing"

Needless to say...those Young men...Made our Trip to Cedar Point even better than it could have been!!!!!

I don't understand why people want to see metal detectors at amusement parks, especially CP where there are so many "real" cops. They are really inconvenient and cause large backups during the busy times at the gates all for a perceived sense of security. Plus, if you want metal detectors in amusement parks, where do you draw the line? Do you want to have to be screened every time you go into a mall or restaurant?
