Season Pass Destination

Kevinj's avatar

Greetings all...I would like to know your thoughts on this.

My wife and I are season pass holders, and we would like to venture out of cozy Columbus Ohio and travel to a park we have never been to before, and would like to use our season passes.

That said, my question to you is this; out of the other Cedar Fair parks (excluding Geauga Lake), which one would you go to and why? Do you have a different "home park" you love? Yes, we can make up our own minds and we have our ideas, but Id really like to hear what this crowd has to say.

Thanks!

I would suggest Dorney if your in the driving mood. A great collection of rides, Hyrda and Talon are an awesome one-two punch. Ride the front seat of Thunderhawk and enjoy one of the most intense and insane moments of airtime around. Also got a great wild mouse and some kiddie coaster called steel force. Also can't forget the awesome Anton action on Laser. Its a great park and always worth the visit. Their waterpark is free if your into that sort of thing.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

Michigan's Adventure is a great park to visit. It is small and kind of in the middle of no where so you need another place to visit since the drive will feel pointless. Shivering Timbers is worth the trip.

Knott's Berry Farm has alway caught my eye as a great park. I've heard Dorney is like a mini CP.

If you want to keep the trip limited to surrounding states, visit Dorney. If you want to drop the dime for a flight, Knottā€™s!

Dorney would be a great option if you want a nice local park, but as said above Knott's is just great if money was no object. Knott's is really amazing.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Worlds of Fun has the new Patriot coaster, but besides that it has everything CP has, but its still fun.

Shivering Timbers is definitely worth the trip, but I would have to suggest ValleyFair. One day for the park, one day for the mall and you have 4 day weekend (with travel) planned out. They've got a pretty good collection of coasters and rides. And then the mall is always worth it.

Knott's Knott's Knott's Knott's Knott's Knott's..... heh

Either Michigan's Adventure if you just want to drive. If you want to fly, go to Knott's. Knott's is worth it. (plus you could swing by Six Flags Magic Mountain and thoretically get a ride on X while you're out there)

Here is a question. My wife and I have talked about going to see friends in Cadillac Mi this summer. How far away is MA from Cadillac?

Thanks for your input so far. Knotts does look amazing, but I think that a road trip (not THAT big of a road trip) is in order for us. We went to Williamsburg to go to Busch Gardens a couple years ago, so right now, I think we're leaning towards Dorney Park. Like the SFMM idea, we could also swing by SF, and we could catch a ride on Kingda Ka...assuming its running...and El Toro...assuming its built...Ive actually never been a 6 flags in my life but that park sounds intruiging. I hadnt even thought about the mall by Valleyfair before.

CP333,

About 2 hours. Check out Yahoo Maps for more info.

I've only been to CP and MiA in recent years. WDW and Universal were the only others way back in 97, I was really young then.

I enjoyed MiA, but it just felt too small. Being so used to a massive park like CP, you can't help but compare the two. CP is the closet thing to the giant theme parks without paying over $1000 dollars to get to Florida or California. Many people don't have that kind of thing so close (2 1/2 hours) to them. I take well advantage of that.

For anybody whose been to the other CF parks. Do they all seem like they are ran like CP, but just on a much smaller scale?

Michigan's Adventure is not really worth it. Shivering Timbers is the only decent ride, but it is rough and you can only ride it so many times without getting a headache. The waterpark is good, so I'd say only go to MA if you just want to go to a waterpark. Plus, there is absolutely no decent food in the park.

$1000 to get to Florida or California? Are you flying First Class?

I just did a trip to Florida with a day at Universal and two days at Disney and airfare, hotel, rental car, and tickets only ran me about $400. Granted, my friend did already have Disney tickets left from a trip a few years ago, so that helped with the cost.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Michigan's Adventure is adding "Coasters", an indoor, sit down restaurant this year. That should help with the lack of food issue.

MiA has one of the best waterparks and it's included with your admission.

They are expanding the train ride this year and are adding Grand Rapids (aka Thunder Canyon). Coasters will be a much welcomed addition as well.

Timbers reviews are a matter of opinion only. I've been on it when it's been running a little rough, but I've also ridden it when it's been very smooth. I'm 52 and have ridden Timbers up to 40 times in a row with no adverse effects. It definitely runs much better in the afternoons and evenings than it does early in the morning.

They've also done some major work on Wolverine Wildcat and I was totally blown away by the improvements last year on that coaster last year.

There are other things in the area to do as well considering Lake Michigan is there. A check on-line of Muskegon and the surrounding area would provide more information.

Having said all that, it depends how much you wish to do on your trip. I would think you could do MiA in a weekend, but if you are looking for a longer trip, I'd probably go for Dorney or ValleyFair!

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Unless you have family up by Michigan's Adventure I have a hard time justifying going there for ONE coaster. Lets be honest if Shivering Timbers wasn't there would you even think about going there?

You betcha. However, I don't know that I'd buy the parking pass, as I don't think I'd go that often without Timbers. Maybe once a season.

We're hoping to up our trip count to MA this year. Last year took a bit of a hit because of wedding planning, but this summers looking like it'll be just fine.
