It's a coffin for dead employees who complained about their job on DT crew and they were put to sleep.

Wow, that's a really really huge spike in Corkscrew's ridership in 2001. Wonder what caused that?
I think its been assumed that its most likely an entry error, as CPLE's numbers take a similarly-large dip that year. So, Corkscrew's real numbers should be 1,347,482 for 2001, while CPLE's should be 2,218,338.

I think the decrease in riders on Gemini might have something to do with whenever I walk by it there is only one train running. I think Gemini is kind of tame when there is one train going but I have fun when there are two racing. So I usually skip it when I see one train. Then again maybe they only run one train because nobody is riding it. Not sure but thats my input.
^It usually only runs one train depending on the crowds, if there is one train running then you only need four employees, if two you need 8.
Back in the days before trial lawyers and insurance companies ruled (ruined?) everything, Wildcat stood by the shore of the lake. It had a nice view there.
I remember the structure covered with spider webs, the breeze from the beach, the yellow bug-repelling lighting and the queue's corregated fiberglas covering. But mostly I remember the hustle on those warm evenings.
The guys were pushing cars out insanely fast - it was exciting and a lot of fun. You had about 14 seconds for everyone to climb in and pull down the lap bars (why would a ride need a seat belt?), then you were advancing to the next block. Same with the unload. You had 14 seconds to get all the way out because that next car was right behind you. The crew members were exhorting everyone to get in/get out quickly. It's not difficult to hit that mark; try timing your group next time you ride. Note: Timing 40-year olds precariously climbing into I.D. does not count.
Anyway, 16 riders a minute is very good throughput for any ride. What is it now, like 60 seconds between cars? So safe. So slow.
I still ride the Cat twice every visit, and would gladly ride more if the line didn't creep. The helix is coming to an end...BRACE!
Just say no to trims
The last coaster I remember being removed was Jumbo Jet, replaced by Avalanch Run, later rethemed to Disaster Transport. Jumbo Jet gave great thrills as a ride in it's time.
Maybe that site is destined for continuous rehab -- that whole corner of the park is vastly underutilized - never even waited more than 15 minutes for WT last season. The Space Spiral gives a great view of the park and lake, yet also under used.
I shouldn't say this, but, the best food concessions, cheese on a stick & steak sandwiches included, are found deep in this corner of the park.
I remember the Wildcat being run that way, the line seemed to move pretty fast during those days.
Anyone remember the Blue Streak back in the day? The ride operators would ride the running boards sometimes as train left the station to put a stray safety bar down AFTER the train was dispatched. Seat belts were optional, and originally the cars were not equiped with seat belts. That line moved very fast as well.
The 70s and part of the 80s were the height of efficiency at Cedar Point. Interesting to note is that their safety record back then was every bit as good as it is today.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I highly doubt that CCMR will be removed, they just added Maverick, and i don't see another western themed coaster coming for a while.
Why not? I'm not saying that CCMR is definatly on it's way out but if it did go, another western themed coaster would fit nicely. What other kind of theme would they do in that area anyway?

They should put in one of those weird space/future kind of themes in there, I think it would go good in that area. Oh wait, they already have one of those along frontier trail. I think the park could get away with putting any kind of theme coaster in where CCMR is.

Ya know, this may have already been stated, somewhere in this thread... With all the speculation and discussion last year at this time about theming rides (Maverick western theme) and how CP sometimes puts pathetic attempts behind theming, I think that due to Maverick's success and Kinsel's statement of "revitalizing the back of the park". I wouldn't rule out another new coaster in frontier-land in CP's near future with a western style. The only real good plot of land is where CCMR is located. However, I do agree that CP has its own way of squeezing big toys into a small sandbox.

I'm not saying that it would have a different theme. I'm just saying that if CCMR is removed, then they will be forced into making another western themed coaster. I'm just thinking that since Cedar Point just did that with Maverick, they might not do it again with their next coaster. Sure they could do it again, but I don't think we'll get two western themed coasters in a row. That's all. We don't even know if anything will be removed yet.
Not that I'm buying into the idea, but if they did remove CCMR, they certainly wouldn't have to put another western themed ride in its place. See Skyhawk, right next door.
Theming is simply something that Cedar Fair does when the notion gets into their heads. Other times, they ignore it.
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
Exactly! Skyhawk has the Americana theme to it, which is, in a sence, a generic theme. A coaster with an Americana theme wouldn't be too bad, especially in that area.
As for Americana related names.....your guess is as good an mine.

^I know it doesn't have an Americana sounding name, but Corkscrew already has an Americana theme with its colors, and the fact that it was built during the Bicentennial year (1976).

In my opinion I think Cedar Creek Mine Ride will stay just because it's still a good family ride. I could see them removing Mean Streak since no one on here likes it that much and the fact that it's Ridership has gone down drastically since 2002. You hardly ever see a long line wait for Mean Streak. I feel like it's a good ride still, but we'll have to wait and see.
Mean streak's wait can still get over an hour on a busy day. The ride is an acquired taste for sure, but plenty of people still like it.
I hope it is not MS or CCMR. To me, Cedar Point has already lost so much of it's atmosphere from back before going coaster crazy,if they take much more classic stuff out it will be gone for good. I feel sorry for all you youngsters. The park is still great, but not as magical. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic.
