I just got back from my first trip to Dorney Park. Yes, I realize this is a CP message board, but the park is owned by Cedar Fair, so they're somewhat related. I have to say, my favorite ride at the entire park was the S&S Screamin' Swing. With an extra admission fee of $5, it was good enough to warrant two rides from me and my friend. It was just REALLY fun. Great air time, cool sensation of swinging without a "mechanical" device moving you, etc... A good comparison is the Meteor (also at Dorney). It swings you back and forth, but its powered by a mechanical engine, so it limits the free movement sensation you get on the Screamin' Swing.
Anyway, I'm really hoping that CP puts one of these things in soon. I'm torn on the "pay-to-ride" thing though. On the one hand, it is so much fun, if it were "free", the line would be HUGE. But, on the other hand, the pay rides piss me off since admission to the park is already way up there.
I wonder how the HUGE swing in England compares to the smaller one at Dorney? I'm just hoping that CF was testing out the swing at Dorney so they could install a bigger and better one at CP!! :)
One in Challenge Park is a possibility, but I would hate to see one in the actual park. I think they are ugly looking and the capacity, even on the large model, wouldn't be that great.
Cedar Point rocks my socks.
I believe all models of the Sceamin Swing are the same size, the "larger" ones just have more seats. Same height, same swing.
So if indeed C.P. is considering this ride they could either place a large capacity model in the park, or a smaller one in Challenge Park. The latter makes better sense to me, as the park already has a pretty big swinging thing going already! It would also be less expensive, and they could stand to make a dime on an upcharge attraction.

I would be interested in seeing the numbers on the "pay-to-ride" attractions at CP. (Are Ripcord and the go-carts the only things left like that?) When I was at Dorney, I commented to my friend that I was more likely to pay for the swing there because the park is so small and we ran out of things to do. But, if it was at Cedar Point, I probably would've never ridden it because I'm always pressed for time just to get in the coasters. I realize there are lots of people that go there for several days at a time, but I wonder how well a swing at CP would do if it were pay. I LOVE CP because of all the amazing coasters, but sometimes it sucks to miss out on all the other rides. (I only make day trips to CP now.) Dorney was really fun because we literally rode everything (minus the kiddy and water rides) at the park. We rode most everything twice actually, and a couple of things three times. AND, we were still done by 4:00pm. :)
It is odd to me you enjoyed it so much haltd because I have heard just the opposite from most people. Most people I talk to say it was a bore for the 5 bucks.
Thrills Around the Corner!
There are larger models that hold more people as well. I think Kennywood is installing one that holds something like 24 or 32 people.

The Screamin' Swing ride cycles seem to vary among the different installations. The Swing in Orlando seems to be the best and most intense. I'm happy to see that Kennywood's new swing will not be an upcharge.
If Cedar Point were to install one of these fun rides as an upcharge I imagine most people would think "Why pay $5 to ride this when I could just ride MaXair for no extra cost?" I know that's what I'd think.

If they were to build one in the Challenge Park I wouldn't mind. The 4 person model would make sense to be put back there but the 24 ot 32 people model might not be logical to put back there.

Kennywood's will be 32 seats.
I was there on Sunday and was looking at the construction site. The holes for the footers were beeing dug. It looks like this ride has a very small foot print, even for the 32 seat version (around the amount of space as "Ocean Motion"). However Challenge Park is the only place for one of these at CP. Kennywood is a small time park and most regulars are not to excited about it (especially since they dropped a Vekoma SLC for it).

You guys really need to ride this thing. I was totally blown away by it. It was just pure fun. I love the huge thrills like Dragster and Millennium, but this ride was a nice change. I missed maXair this year, so I'm not sure what that's like, but the screamin' swing is now my favorite non-coaster ride. (Even at $5 a pop!)
Challenge Park is a nice location for resort guests when they take a day out of the park. Soak City during the day and a couple of upcharge attractions in the evening. Hotel packages offer coupons, etc. They need another thrill ride back there, since Vertigo's removal left such a void.
I rode the 4 seater at Pigeon Forge and I thought it was thrilling and scary. It's different enough from maXair to go perfectly outside the park as an upcharge. Not different enough to go in the park.
But they've been know to do odd things.

What's a screamin' swing? Anyone have pics?
August 12th, 2005- Eminem and Lil Jon concert at Comerica Park.....I was right at the stage! 50 Cent sprayed water on me, Eminem was an inch away from touching me, and when the concert was over I walked outside and met Lil Jon's Eastside Boyz!

What is the maximum angle those swings achieve?
I don't understand why the park would want one of those when they just bought maXair, which, in my opinion, is a far superior design.

I have no desire to see one of these at Cedar Point, much too similar to Maxair.
"And let's also not forget--let's not forget, Dude--that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city--that isn't legal either. "
If you didn't even know what a Screamin' Swing was, how can you say it sucks? Have you ridden one? Also, how do you know if its similar to maXair? They're totally different technologies and maXair spins. Does the Screamin' Swing spin? uh no! So, people who get motion sick by spinning rides would be able to ride the Screamin' Swing, but not maXair. Come on people, think before you type!!
