Schwabinchen to be removed?

Sunday will mark the last day of operation for the Schwabinchen spinning ride. Built in 1970, the Heinrich Mack manufactured ride will be disassembled this winter as part of the park’s improvement program for 2003. Originally located on the “Million Dollar Midway,” where the WildCat roller coaster currently stands, the Schwabinchen was relocated to its present location in 1985, across from the Cedar Point Aquatic Stadium, where it replaced the popular Rotor. Schwabinchen has thrilled more than 15 million guests in its 32-year history.

Glad I got a ride on it when I did. I guess it will be one of my few defunct rides I've ridden.

If this is true, my question would be why??? Certainly there are numerous locations where Troika/Chaos can be placed. I still say one or both need to go over in the MF/Mantis area. It's all coasters over there - nothing else to do!

What do you mean by "So much for your good source."?

I wasn't sworn to secrecy on this matter. I have some other quite interesting information though. Unfortunatley I was sworn to secrecy on it. :P

Somehow I doubt CP will issue a press release to say they are removing a ride! :) If they indeed are removing something, it will likely become known when they announce the new coaster - and if that were happening tomorrow, I'm sure we'd know by now! :)

It was originaly going to be removed, yes, but the fact is, that this wasn't a cut & dry descision by Cedar Point. Some full-timers wanted it to go, some felt it needed to stay. Believe what ever you want, but your "good source" didn't tell you all of the story.

I'm told they are releasing this along with a "this is your last weekend to visit before closing for the season" types of deals. We'll soon see how good my source is. I'm betting he is right, since I know what his job is there. :)

My mistake - I thought you were referring to the new ride announcement which will not be before the end of the season. I don't doubt we will see an announcement on Schwabinchen soon.

I might have to ride that on Friday...I've never ridden it before, but I'll have to convince my friend to ride it before I can. Don't want to miss out on something I haven't done before it's gone like so many other rides removed from CP.

I think that the woman on the rie could be one of the reason. To me, it seems that she will suffer the same fate as "Lusty Lils"...

Chaos is supposed to go where Schwabinchen is now. Troika is supposed to go in front of WT, where exactly I don't know. I think a great spot for Troika or Chaos would have been in front of the MF bunny hop. Thats a pretty good size area.

I never really thought I'd say this, but I'm kinda sad to see her go. It was actually a pretty fun ride to run most of the time, especially in '01 before they locked the music cabinet. There was nothing like hearing kids tell their folks they wanted to ride the "Booby lady." Depending on the operator you could even get a little airtime. The lines this year were certainly longer than years before, but I guess sometimes it takes a little more than that to be a deciding factor.

So long to the Bar...uh...Maid. ;)

Well atleast they were nice enough to make a press release BEFORE the park closed so people could get their last ride in. Unlike Fascination were they waited to March to announce that the attraction was already gone! I'm still bitter about that.

They still didn't announce it until pretty close to the season's end -- those of us who can't get there closing weekend will miss out.

Fortunately, I took a ride last time I was there, "just in case".
