Thats when it happened to me, on 6/21!
Were the seatbelts always on Raptor or were they added some year and if so, what year was it? Mantis had seatbelts added in 1999, right? Did B & M recall all of their stand up trains not equipped with them or did Cedar Point want to add them on Mantis?

Wow, an old topic comes back to life!
Raptor has had safety belts since Day #1. Mantis:TCFKAB got 'em in '99, and was the first B&M stand-up coaster to get them. They've been added to other B&M stand-ups; in fact the difficulties I had riding Mantis last season coupled with the troubles I had on Chang this season combined to prompt me to not ride Mantis at all during the 2000 season. :(

--servo, For whom the off-season started on June 7th, 2000 at 12 noon...
Just for the record and working on Mantis ALL SUMMER I seriously doubt the harness will pop up during the ride. Once the harness are locked it takes 60,000 pounds of pressure to break one open...that is standard on all b&m's. What you probablby expieranced was the harness releasing a click or, it was adjusting to your body build. We did however have problmes with people getting stuck in their harness becasue it would not release...one guest, the only one on board, in early july was stuck in the harness for about 20 minutes until maintance showed up. We had to call the ride down for that!!
Mantis only got the belts this year -- I was surprised to see them! I for one don't like the new trains, but oh well. I'd rather deal with that then not have the coaster at all!

When I rode Kumba I got a seat where one of the belts had been ripped off. I'm so paranoid I just kept thinking that the OTSR would pop open at any second. Needless to say when I got off Kumba my hands were sore from gripping the OTSR so hard. :)

Mantis got seatbelt LAST year ... 1999
At the beginning? I only manage one trip each summer now, mid-Juneish, so if it was later than that I wouldn't know... Then again, my memory could be bad too, no question... :)

Sheesh, and I worried about the Iron Dragon restraints popping open when I first rode it!:)

Magnum-Just Ride It!!!
Magnum, that's pitiful. I, for one, am surprised by CP putting so many damn belts on their rides...
I thought that Mantis got them in 1998 too, but it must have been 1999.
Everdred, I really don't care about Maggie's seat belts. It doesn't take away from the experience of the ride at all and adds a back-up safety device. It makes me feel just that little bit better.....

Trim brakes-a necessity???
Rideman Dave-
What was your bad Mantis expirience??
I do have concern over what happend to you but...
let's not talk about this too much. Remember, the media could get into this and then the government

Live for FUN!
GO SHAMROCKS!
GO WOLVERINES!
WOW! I cant imagine what the space shot on Power Tower would be like if your harness became unlocked.
100ft-ok
200ft-ok
300ft-ahh what a veiw
400ft- something is wrong here...
PT restraints freak me out too. If your kind of skinny you know what I'm talking about. The OTSR will only come down so far.

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!
Someone (sorry, reading with Lynx the attributions get all screwed up so I don't remember who) asked about my bad experience on Mantis...
Let me put it this way: Traditionally when riding Mantis, I would straddle the seat, positioning the seat pretty much as high as I can get it...which, given the lack of legroom and the size of my thighs, means just slightly above my knees. Then I pull the shoulder bar down until it touches my shoulders. Trouble is, the safety belt is too short to allow this. Either the shoulder bar has to come down lower, which compresses my shoulders and spine, or the seat has to come up, which tends to cut off the circulation in my legs. The bottom line is, since they added the safety belts, I don't fit anymore. If the seats were farther apart so that I could stand with my feet apart, or if the seat were narrower so that it would fit between my legs, it would help. Barring that, making the safety belt a few inches longer would also help. What it all boils down to is that Mr. B. and Mr. M. designed a train that I don't fit. :(

I dont know why you all are so paranoid about seatbelts. I could understand if it actully did pop open, but whats the chance of that happening? It would be bad for buisness. To me it doesn't matter if it has a seatbelt, or not. I was rode Hulk at IOA, we had just got lauched out of the tunnel, and we were in the zero g roll poped a notch. I had no seatbelt. After I noticed it was just ajusting to my body, I wasn't scared.

Feel the Force!
The chance of a B&M stand-up restraint releasing is apparently higher, because it's happened to too many people to be a coincidence. It's not about being scared, it's about having faith in reduncancy.
