Well this Saturday I made my annual trip to CP for "Whirlpool Day." As my father is a long-time Whirlpool employee, we make it a goal to go every year on this; the busiest of days. Why the company chooses to go on the first Saturday of June every year I may never know.
Anyway, 6 of my friends (and me) piled into a red and grey 1981 church van. (Which we lovingly refer to as the prison van.) There is nothing like cruising through Ohio on a worn out engine and diesel fuel. We left the small town of Dunkirk (population us) at about 830. And nothing gets me more pumped up for the Point than local radio stations playing golden oldies. Needless to say the drive there was half the fun.
Once we actually got to the park, we made a mad dash (a.k.a. slow walk) towards the Wicked Twister/maXair area. Maxair had an INSANE line all day. Honestly the sign said 2 hours constantly, and since the line stretched almost to the entrance of Chaos at times; I believed it. So we skipped that and took a good ride on Wicked Twister. 25 minute wait was not so bad, and we got some laughs from the employee at the Freeway entrance who looked like he was going to shoot himself out of boredom. He kept offering us his job lol.
After that, it was straight to Dragster. We waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes, which was not bad at all considering the volume of people in the park. Great ride this time, and actually caught a little airtime over the tophat. What made this even better was that the girl I was riding with had never ridden it, so you can imagine the fun :p
We then headed for rides with short waits on Magnum and Gemini, and then had a walk on for Mean Streak, which was previously down. Mean Streak in the backseat is actually sort of fun, unlike the lame front seat rides I have taken on it.
Back to the Picnic Pavilion for lunch, which was 2 coolers FULL of snacks and drinks, and 150 wings from Game Day Grille lol. Gotta love pissing away money. Stupid, lazy, overfed Americans. After that we took our barely-visible freeway stamps for Raptor and had a great flight. We were lucky, too, because it was an hour (nearly full queue) wait. Sat in 2nd row end seat.
At this point it was about 6p.m. and the crew was getting restless from the heat. I guess I'm the only coaster fanatic of the group, but I wasn't going to beg to stay. After all, the ticket was free. (no season pass for me this year, too much working) Anyway I made my final lap around, hitting Wicked Twister again, doing Power Tower (drop side, the only REAL side) and riding Magnum again.
Finally we closed the day with a ride on Demon Drop. My friend Earl was amazed by the floating penny trick. All in all it was a very good (however short-lived) trip. Hit most of the better rides, sans Millennium Force. Also disappointed about the line for maXair, but it will die down eventually. That is all for now, thank you for reading!
Bake 'em away, toys.
Aww, it was a wonderful TR. Wish I was at the Point. Not till August though... :(
Are you sure this isn't the Atlantic Ocean?
GO TIGERS!
You should have waited for maXair. Even when the line is back by Chaos, it's barely an hour.
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
I agree with Old CPer. The line stretched almost to Chaos for me, like you said, but we waited maybe 45 minutes at the most for our ride.
Like the others said, don't let the line stretching back that far scare you into not riding. That line moves pretty good, since 50 people can ride at a time.
Cedar Point rocks my socks.
