^^Likewise. Though I suppose the best way to help would be to move the entire boardwalk away from the ocean. You know, far enough where you don't have to worry about a 10+ foot rise in sea level. I'm betting everyone that was devastated by this storm (in regards to those on the coast) will be rethinking where they choose to live. "I never thought this would happen to us." Really? Because it just did.

I was actually lucky and visited those piers this past summer to get the credits. Although, I am sad that those piers are gone, the loss of life in that area outweighs my concern for those piers. My uncle lives in lower manhattan, and their power just got turned back on.

Buoys around the Great Lakes that measure wave heights reported southern Lake Huron had the biggest average waves at 23 feet. Lake Erie's highest average wave height was reported at 14 feet by a buoy 16 miles north of Vermilion on the Ohio-Ontario border. Lake Michigan's average waves peaked at 21.7 feet on Tuesday, not as high as the 22.9-foot waves recorded last year. Lake Ontario topped out at just over 10.2 feet.

It's worth noting that as far as I can find, all the buoys that measure wave height measure an average height given in a specific amount of time, and not peak wave height. The National weather service has estimated peak wave heights for a few of the lakes, but those are all labeled "unofficial"

I have family that lives along the Jersey Shore, and they are still under a mandatory evacuation. Thankfully they are safe and there was minimal damage where they live, but in other towns on their island entire homes were washed away. And those pics of Atlantic City and the roller coaster makes me really sad! I've never been on the one that got washed away but have seen it before. Luckily the ones that I have been on, in Ocean City NJ, are safe. I'm glad Cedar Point didn't get hit too hard.

I am so happy our park is ok! I would like to help with the efforts to rebuild the parks that got lost in New Jersey! I hope maybe others would like to help too. I thought that I know that I really enjoy our amusement park and have lost a amusement park that meant alot to me for different reasons, that it would be nice to reach out and help rebuild the Funtown pier so more can enjoy in the future!

No offense man but peoples lives should be put first. Focus on helping people get their lives back in working order, then make efforts to fix a ravaged boardwalk or 2.

Not just worried about an amusement park...I want to help people rebuild all the things they just lost!

Sorry, and again no offence, but that didn't come across in your posts. You kind of just mentioned the parks. And in all honesty, it's seems like a "one or the other" kind of deal since an amusement park/pier is not essential to someones existence.

^ It can be important to people who liked that pier. Anything that a person loves or likes is technically part of their lives. The people who have been there probably have a lot of memories from going there, so it counts as a place to care about because of the storm. But of course their homes and essentials are also important.

Memories do not keep you sheltered or give you a roof over your head. If that pier had not been damaged but the entire neighborhood was demolished, I doubt the first thing on their peoples mind would be "Well thank god the park is still there." It would probably be more like "Where am I going to live now that my house is destroyed?"

I'm not saying that keeping the places alive that are special in peoples memories isn't important. Just that it's not essential to living. Heck, for all we know, the pier could stay closed for years. And even if/when it's operational again, it won't be the same place that people remembered. However, the most important thing to always keep in mind is that you have those memories. You just have to know when to detach what's truly important and what's nostalgic (when such choices arise).

I am so glad we are on the same page! Sometimes its hard to put into words what you mean! I really trying to support and help the people who lost everything in this storm! The rollercoaster just made me think about how fast something we all enjoy so much can be destroyed! To me I am thinking more about how there are so many that have lost everything and that is about them....their homes...jobs...and the way of life they knew! I hope everyone here understand that I am working to help those in need with whatever they need!!! I am hoping everyone here understands that I am not all about the park I am all about helping to give people hope and to be able to rebuild thier lives!

Found this article which mentions this gem. There is also a pic showing the flood level that had risen at the Coney Island Cyclone...
