Safe??

I am going to Cedar Point again this summer, but I am scared of what may happen. I know this probably sounds insanely stupid (not to mention me being PARANOID), but you hear of malfunctions, trains crashing, people falling out, etc. etc... How does Cedar Point rate on this? Have you ever been on a ride when it malfunctioned?

Ride malfunctions happen frequently but NO ONE HAS EVER DIED BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT AT CEDAR POINT. People have died becaused of heart attacks on rides and such but no one has ever died due to an accident on a Cedar Point ride.

i've been to a lot of theme parks and i would consider cedar point one of (if not THE) safest parks. i always feel safe with the ride ops and the overall maintenance of the rides. at other parks, i sometimes wonder if the ride ops are even old enough to be working, much less mature enough to have my life in their hands. but, i've never had that worry at cedar point. you'll be fine.

Cedar Point has an extremely safe record.

I don't know the actual statistics, but I would guess for every 10,000,000,000 car accidents worldwide there is probably 1 Amusement accident.

I'll take riding an amusement ride over riding in a car anyday. ;)

I wouldn't worry, things can happen to a ride just like like you car after all they are both mechanical, but Amusement rides have a more strict routine maintenance schedule.

Cedar Point has been around for over 100 years (the 2nd oldest park in the US, I believe) and NEVER has had anyone killed on a ride.

That says something...your fears are unfounded. Just go, relax, and have a good time!

You should be more worried about your drive to the Point than what will happen once you get there.

A superb safe record!

And I agree with you. After all, coasters don't have 3 or 4way intersections, light junctions, rear-enders(most times;)), crazy drunk people going 60+ over the limit, and best of all SPEED LIMITS!! (among other things) :)

The only time I'll worry about safety on a Cedar Point coaster is if they build one called "The Route 2 Experience".

Just follow all the posted guidlines and you'll be fine. Basically the rules are "If you have an ounce of common sense, you'll be fine".

Go, have fun, and come back and tell us all about it.

I was on Magnum when the train wound up in the lake once. Don't worry about that, though - they float just like a boat and you'll be back on the beach in no time.

Truthfully, you're as safe as you'll ever be when you're at the point. (sometimes maybe a little TOO safe....)

Out of 1244 amusement parks (RCDB.com), Cedar Point ranks #3 in the world for safety. That is an extrordinary accomplishment and says a lot about Cedar Fair's interest in keeping their guests safe.

I agree with everyone else who's posted: Cedar Point is extremely safe. I visited for nearly a week every summer for 22 years and only got stuck on a ride a handful of times. And "stuck" isn't even the right word...you know, just stalled on the tracks for a few minutes. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Have a great time.

I don't think that stalled is the right word either. Stopped would be the word I would use. :)

Dont ride Dodgems, Cadillac Cars, turnpikes or Antique cars, those are the only rides you would be rear-ended!

The roller coasters are great and the ride hosts will take great care of you!

At least I won't sue if I'm rear-ended on the Cadillac, Turnpike, or Antique cars;)

That was the official figure given to us during Cedar Point employee orientation.
