Rumor... true or not?

I was at CP every day but Friday last week and got to ride TTD 2 times... what a rush! Rumor from a worker was that a car was getting ready to launch when the launch cable (or something to that effect) snapped and coiled around the front of the car. Makes sense that it has been down for this long, since the sound of this seems to be a pretty serious malfunction. (if it is true).

Anyway, I have never been to CP before this trip and I had a blast. I am baffled by comments made about people not going until TTD is up and running. I live in Oklahoma and bought a season pass to go to CP every day last week. I wasn't upset TTD wasn't running, just glad that I got a chance to ride it before it broke down. (I live 18 hours away, I think it'll be awhile before I make that trip again) All in all, other than the mass amounts of kids on "field trips", we had a great time.

I don't think it is a problem with the launch cable. From what I saw and talking to ride ops, it sounds like it is a hydraulics/anti-rollback brakes malfunction. I am one of the people you mentioned (not going BACK until it is running). I've already been up there this year, but it was broken down when I went. I work two jobs and it is hard to get a day off from both of them. So when I do take a day off from both, I want to be able to ride TTD. I will probably go there at least 5 times this year. My previous hight was 2 (last year).
all I can say is that I sure hope it's up and running by Wednesday, because I'm only able to go to CP once every 2 years (my parents hate going to parks and I like a few hours away) and I really can't change the day that I'm going, because pretty much all our arrangements have already been made. So I really, really hope that it will be running.
Well, the launch cable did break, but that was two weeks ago. The current downtime is probably not related to the cable separation, rather another issue with the ride.

CONFIRMED: They are waiting for part(s) from Intamin in Europe. Something with the hydraulic system failed (possibly a fly-wheel?). The part(s) are being shipped via ship (which means the part(s) must be fairly large).

They should be in this week. I would expect the ride to be in operation by next weekend, but I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Not that I don't believe you, but where did you "confirm" this?

A good fellow at Sandcastle let me in on the scoop.

He said they had quite a few unhappy guest for CoasterMania! Yikes!
He said they should have it up and running really soon and they are working to death trying to get it back up.

By next weekend? Holy guacamole! ;)

WOW...I heard that the footings were cracking and it was going to sink back into the filled in lagoon....and you never guess who i heard it from, my moms cousins, nephews, brothers, friend works at a place that is near Cedar Point.,...word has it it is going to have to e dismantled, poured on solid reinforced concrete that goes 13.12354 feet into the ground...crazy huh.

Point of this is these "insider scoops" just aren't very beieveable...watch the webcam...if you see a launch, you know it is at least testing

FEH!

Speaking of which, you said the parts are coming by ship...how did the original parts get here during th winter when they were building it?

Tonight, on the Fox 8 News, they had a segment about TTD being broken down. They said that the park said that the downtime has been caused by a faulty valve. They said that mechanics are working around the clock to get everything fixed. They did not give a specific date to reopen, but they did say that it will be soon(once the valve arrives) Yay!

Yes, the Fox 8 truck was located infront of Breakers today. It appears that it is a faulty valve (according to the news segments). The thing I don't get it why they would need to ship it by boat if it's only a valve? How big is this thing??!!!

BTW: On Fox News they showed a segment about TTD being down but they also included clips of Mantis...which gave the appearance of Mantis being the Tallest, fastest, etc...

Well if this is any indication, many if not all Dragster ride ops have been transferred to other rides this week...sorry Metalhead_777.

...and the most anticipated event of summer 2003 is...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

It's a major mechanical problem so it's no big surprise it will be down for a while. It's also looking like this coming weekend isn't a safe bet either...
my guess is that by Saturday at noon, we will see test launches.

I think that hearing about parts being shipped is something we can easily believe, lets not just tear the guy up from hearing it from a hotel/park worker. Even if he IS wrong about the parts being sent over (which I highly doubt), its not a life and death situation. We'll live.
well...i've heard from fellow employees here at cp that

a) the parts being shipped in from intamin were stopped by customs

b)the maintenance guys here can't fix it and the engineer who is supposed to be here for so many launches is in europe somewhere and is being held up by customs...pick the rumor you like more

They are starting to report on it here in Detroit also. Fox 2 did a small sigment showing the ride in action.

Also, I just wanted to say that I said the whole, "I'm not setting foot in that park until that ride is running" because that's how I feel. I have been going to Cedar Point for more than a decade now and it's not that none of the rides are fun anymore but we all know that the main attraction this year is Dragster. Unlike some of you, I can't afford a season pass. Not only that, I can't afford to drive up to Cedar Point every time I want a thrill so I have to choose my days wisely. That's why I am not going until the ride is operational, because the one time I do go could be the only time I can go.

Ohio State, here I come!

It's kind of common news now that the valve is waiting to arrive from the Cleveland airport...which means no actual shipping. I would seriously bet that it would be up by this weekend, unless something completely unexpected happened.
