Rude employee!!

While waiting in line on Wednesday (6/19) to get our hand stamp for Millennium Force, my friend and I were getting impatient as no one had showed up as of 11:30. She went to find out what was going on, and to make the story short, was handed the phone and told by someone in park operations that everyone needed "to shut up and chill out!" When asked her name, the woman hung up. I was just wondering if anyone else has expereinced any behavior like this before because I am a true Cedar Point fan, and could not believe that any employee of Cedar Point would have told her this, or let alone any other business which depends on customers for business. Luckily, we eventually talked to Bill Sphen (sp?), and the problem was taken care of. Needless to say, I don't think my friend will be returning anytime soon.
Maybe it's just me but I really didnt understand that.

I didn't quite follow that either. My guess is that the lady in park op thought she was talking to another employee! :) It does get crazy sometimes in the park op office (if lots of rides are going down or lots of people walk in to be measured at once, etc), but that's still no excuse for that type of stuff - even if its toward an employee. The park op clerks are not the only ones busting their asses and they should not be snippy. :)

How did she get handed a phone?

Anyway it seems like getting the freeway stamps out can be a problem. Sometimes they have 2 people stamping and a security guard keeping people in line which works well. Another time they had one person who then explains to everyone who gets a stamp a speech on how it works. He even started to give the speech to me after I got the stamp but I just walked away. :) It took 15 minutes to get a stamp and there were less than 120 people in line because the time slot never changed. It sounds like this time there was nobody giving a stamp.

Oh and yeah, there are a few "rude" employee's who work there as with any place else. I don't think I have ever been told to shut-up though, well at least by someone who did not know me.

I used to work in the Customer Service field (not at CP), and some days you just lose it. I'm not making an excuse, but I can understand how frustrating it can be.
Yea Joe, I might have told you to shut up when you were bragging about riding "Blue Streak!" :)

Sorry for how I worded my first post.

What happened was since no one was at the freeway stand, she walked to the entrance of millennium force, along with about 20 other complaining guests. The boy at mf called park operations on one of the phones they have at the entrance of the ride. When the lady on the phone heard the yelling from the guests, she told the boy to give the phone to the nearest guest, which was my friend. I guess she wanted to find out what they were complaining about, but either way, I was surprised to hear that they handed her the phone. Once on the phone, the comment about shutting up and chilling out was made.

Sorry again for the confusion.

This seems to a unfortunate habit among some current employees at CP.

I was at the park 6/17 and two young boys (6 & 7) that I was with were dying to ride the go-carts. I bought them 2 consecutive ride tickets so they could enjoy the ride twice. My wife gave both of the tickets to the gentleman taking the tickets, because we both knew that the boys would lose the tickets while riding. After the first ride I told the boys to stay in the car so they could ride again. The lady in charge of the ride asked for all the consecutive ride tickets to be handed to the same gentleman. When one of my boys did not do this, she flipped out screaming that he had to get off the ride because he had no ticket. I tried to tell her that the man taking the tickets already had the situation taken care of. She told me: "Step back sir and let me do my job", I told her to let the gentleman do his job as well and that he had it in control. She then proceeded to tell me to "Step back and shut up!" I then asked her if she really told a customer to shut up and she said yes, and said the same thing again.

I did contact park operations and told them what happened. I spoke with a man named Barret and he apologized and offered two free tickets for my kids. I did not accecpt because CP should not be punished for what one employee did. He did explain to me that they have had problems with this particular employee and that this is the leverage he needed to take care of the problem.

I assume that this particular employee was terminated, which is unfortunate for her, but for CP probably needed. The summer is very young and some of the wrinkles need to be worked out as far as the employees are concerned.

Haha - I would have taken the free tickets... :) To be 100% honest, I got the impression from my three days at the park this year that the quality of employee might be down a bit this year as compared to the last couple years. I'm not sure what the reason for that is, and no it isn't just because I am not there. :) Maybe it's because they haven't raised the pay in a couple years or maybe because of the ecomomy, a different group of people is trying to get jobs there now. It's not that all the employees are bad (in fact there are a bunch of returning emplyees that I know aren't bad), but just that there seems to be more bad apples than in the past few years. Maybe since my visits were all early in the season, those bad apples have been weeded out by now. Has anyone else who visits alot gotten this feeling or am I the only one?

I gotta agree with ya Matt too. Not to defend the actions of ANY employee acting rude but I myself many times said something to a guest without thinking. Some people don't understand the long hours, LOW pay, and some of the guests REALLY test your patience. Working at CP was supposed to be my "fun" job and many times it was FAR from being fun. I think too that many guests act as though CP "owes" them something, that for their $42.00 ticket we are supposed to bow to their every whim. I don't think they realize that the employees really do work very hard and it does get old after a while. I actually cursed out a guest because he got nasty with me, and later he came back through the line to apologize. Again I am not defending the action of whom ever it was in park ops, but you have to try to understand their side too.
(Yes Matt this is coming from the person who loves to scream at loud obnoxious guests to "shut the **** up!" ;))

Quality of employees going down? Today, when boarding ID, the coed crew was flirting with the controls operator, who then closed the queue gates while people were still going through them...

I noticed that one girl on ID is really not having a good time there. This was back in the first week of June and her demeanor and spiel was just horrible. I really don't think there is an excuse for this because the other employees do the exact same thing on the ride and they carry themselves quite well.

Snoopy Rocks! On Ice starts June 22--Do you think they'll let me drive the Zamboni machine?

I want to drive the Zamboni!

I have never really had a bad experiance because of employees at CP, but my friend on the other hand, had a part of his day ruined because the employees at this ice cream and milkshake place were NOT working together at all, so people that got in line after he did got their food.

I think most CP employees are very enthusiastic and do a great job. Sometimes the Gemini ride-ops get REALLY enthusiastic. It reallly makes my day. :-)

There's no excuse for rude employee behavior. Telling someone to shut up is very unprofessional. Long hours, low pay, yes but you're there to work (no guarentee you'll have fun.) Want fun? Enter CP as a guest, not an employee. Oh, by the way, I'll take those two complementery tickets. Cedar Point is responsible for its employees.

If this person was in the Park Ops office I have a pretty good idea who it was. This actually doesn't come as a big surprise to me.
when i was their last week every other employee i walked by was talking about 4 people who were fired, maybe she was one of em.

Ever been an employee? I know that theres no excuse for it, but why are all of you posting about this? Take it to park operations, don't post it here. Theres no sense in putting it here, because the problem won't be solved here. Simply take your complementary ticket, hand it to the ticket person, and walk your complaining self to Park Operations, located at the Colisieum Arcade, and complain away.

The person Millennium Man was complaining about at the beginning of this thread WAS IN the park ops office. She told him to shut up over the phone. I would take the complaint to Guest Services at the front of the park and follow it up with a letter to Kinzel. He actually does read a lot of those letters.
Excellent point Cheif Wahoo, that's basically what my friends and I did. After a bad incident with the Mantis crew this year and a letter to Mr. Kinzels secretary the problem has been corrected. I like to start at the TOP. I don't want to see CP's ride ops fall into the category of SFWOA's ride op's.
