I have only stayed at breakers twice, once in bon air and once in main.
I had thought the rooms that are at the end of breakers were the horizon suites because I did not know a lot about the hotel. I am now curious as I know the horizon suites are in the tower what these other "main" rooms are.
At the end of each wing of the main section there are rooms which seem to be in a rounded area. The wings are circular at the end of the main. Do you know what rooms these are? I saw into one once and it looked nice. I assume they are some type of above average lakeview room but I am not sure what is in them.
I'm going out to get some air.
Those rooms i believe are the horizon suites. they have the round balconies and jacuzzi's in them. Im not sure if there are pictures of them anywhere around here. Walt would know if there is a picture somewhere.

I am not shur which round rooms you are talking about but it sounds like the rooms at the ends of the Bonair section buy the miniture golf or the rotunda by the pool. Each are part of the old Breakers Hotel, they are very old sections of the hotel and are not up to the standerds of the new sections.
The horizon suites are the largest suites on the two corners of the tower section facing the lake, and the same two corners of the conference center east section. They have the largest balcony, the regular suites have the small patios facing the lake, they are much smaller. Everything else is just a room with no balcony.
If you are talking about the rooms that look like they are in old towers by the Put-Put and have no balcony, they are old and just a little larger than the regular rooms in the Bonair section. That is the only part of the old hotel that is left except for the lobby or the rotunda. And the rotunda is used mostly to house collage student workers, but some of the rooms are still used for guests.

Two things to add to this... When I was in the park last weekend, and walked past the Bon Air section, I noticed one of the round rooms had U of M neon signs and flags hanging from all the windows. I was wondering if they house some employees down there, because I've never heard of someone visiting a hotel for a few days, and decorating their room while they are there.... football hasn't even started yet.
Also, has anyone else noticed that the exterior of the main portion of Breakers (rotunda) is looking really worn down? It is in serious need of painting, and I saw plants actually growing out of a portion of the building as well...

If you go into the upper rooms of the rotunda those are the oldest rooms in the hotel. They are no longer used of course. They are triangle shaped and are in dyer need of repair. I know they wont do it because of the historic nature of them. Those rooms also had no bathroom. The bathroom is on the floor with them, i think there are 2.

One year I will convince a bunch of friends to pitch in for a couple of nights in the Presidential Suite. Maybe next year for Closing Weekend. I've never had the desire to stay in Breakers because I like LHP too much, but if I could talk 5 friends into splitting the $1300 for two nights up that would be cool.
Anyone ever stayed in it?
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I'm not sure which rooms you refer, but I have stayed in one that sounds like what you described just this past summer. It was actually a queen-bed suite. It consisted of a bathroom, a bedroom, and then a living room sort of area with the sofa bed and small dining table.
It was a smoking suite, so it smelled like smoke a little bit. It also wasn't my first choice, but by the time I made reservations there wasn't much left. Overall I would say it was a fine place to stay, and I would stay in that room again. The view was real nice--the rounded part you speak of was the actual living room area and you could see the lake pretty well, along with Breakers East and some other bits. We got a nice lightning storm the last night we were there which was pretty cool to watch.
The only downsides were the lack of elevator access (of course my g/f had a ton of heavy bags), the really old TVs in the room that were also quite tiny (but I guess if you don't spend any time in the room this doesn't matter), and the slight aroma of cigarettes, as I said before. The bathroom door and some fixtures probably need to be replaced soon, as well. It looks and feels rather old-fashioned in the room.

Those rooms are now employee housing for people that work in the hotel or work odd shifts like night security. I was in one of them once, definately glad I wasn't living there.

Is this the exterior of the room that was originally in questions? I believe this angle is main, but there are some in Bonair.

The rooms on the end of Bonair that look round are type = HNR2DS. Look on CP reservations for Breakers and look for this room type. You will see a small interior picture of it. Also, there is a basic floor plan on the Breakers maps you get with check in.
