Roller Coaster Problems

They took those off after they shot off into the lake/pond next to dragster one day.

The next couple days they started taking them off the remaining trains then that winter they worked on takin the rest of the theming off the trains except the paint coat.

Are you serious?, I thought it was just a weight issue.

Nope it was an actual problem which is why they were taken off and why another row of seats was added to the back car.

Did anyone actually see the wheels fly off? What a sight that would be. Were the wheels recovered or are are they resting at bottom of the pond?

Those wheels will make a great collectors item one day.

I was somewhat shocked to learn that CP "laid off" 6 ride mechanics this season. I was told this by a CP "union employee" who also said "you didn't hear that from me". I guess they did this to cut back on the budget.

So if this is true, it may be that the rides are not getting the preventive maintenance as they should, leading to more breakdowns.

So looking at the coaster issues at CP this last year, how many could be contributed to less preventative maintenance and how much to new technology or just unpredictable breakage?

My guess would be its not so easy to make the direct correlation between staff reductions and current issues.

I have no idea how many maintenance people are employed by CP, but suggesting that rides are not getting the proper attention now also assumes that the previous staff was the exact number needed and each employee was working at 100% for the required hours.
(That MAY not be true either.)

I had to stop half way through the post my head hurt so much. :)

I wish I could have seen the wheels fly off. That would have been some sight wouldn't it?

No offense, but I am totally confuzzled by that post. Can you please tell me what you're getting at?

It was confusing to write too ;-)

Basically I meant that with fewer staff it may take longer to finish the workload but it doesn't necessarily mean its not completed.
(I don't know)

Does that help? :-)

The wheels on TTD came off because they wanted to fit more people on the ride so it had 2 more seats. They never flew into the pond.

Yeah they did come off on one of the trains during testing, the extra row of seats was just a wierd plus to the situation. If you read some sites you can look Kingda Ka has the mounts for an extra row of seats but they don't use it. I may be wrong but I believe it was the blue train that lost its wheels first. But so we don't debate this anymore than it needs, heres a quote from wikipedia : "While braking during its inaugural year, one of the decorative wheels came off of the train and rolled into the adjacent lagoon. The extra decorations have since been removed and replaced with an extra set of seats to increase the number of riders and to keep the line moving at a steady pace."

And if you need any more convincing ADAM! WHERE ARE YOU?

No, I understood what you were saying. Actually, there was a very confusing post by Factory 81 between your post and mine. He seems to have since deleted his post, hence why you thought I was referring to yours. I'll delete my original post to avoid more confusion.

Wikipedia may not always be a reliable source, but one of the decorative wheels did fly off. So in this case, it is accurate. Although the addition of one more row has only a marginal increase to the line speed.

Like I also said when TTD and Kingda Ka were made they made it so that they could add another row of seats if the park wanted.

I don't know if they modified the existing cars or removed the themed cars and replaced them with 2-row cars.

I would imagine it was the latter, but don't know for sure.

It is true sorry about that everyone.

Its ok we all make mistakes.

I never thought a wheel would come off a roller coaster like that.

It wasn't one of the coaster wheels. It was a "drag tire" added to the train for thematic purposes.

Yes, and the fact that lightning struck skyhawk once is also true, just like the tires falling off :) :)
