Roles of team leaders/Asst. team leaders

I know the roles of the regular crew members but what additional roles do team leaders and assitant team leaders have?

Team Leaders basically share roles. they take on responsibilities of getting the paperwork filled out properly, getting the ride keys from park op, making sure the ride is opened on time, makes sure the ride is as clean as possible. making sure ever crew member is doing their job properly. We are basically a manager of a small business. and we no longer have Asst. Team Leaders they are now considered Co-Team Leaders, they are basically equal except for when major decisions are to be made the Team leader will makes those. (But most of the time they agree with each other).

"Manager of a small business" is a bit grandiose. A team leader is pretty much the person who deals the most with guests issues on the ride, deals with paperwork, and yes makes sure the other employs are doing what they are supposed to. I know they used to do the schedules for the ride also, not sure if they still do.

As someone who has run a small business there is a lot more involved than what a Team Leader would handle on a ride at Cedar Point.

I don't think he meant "manager of a small business" as seriously as you thought. Lol. A manager of a small business IS harder, no doubt. There is a lot more involved and you're correct about that, Morté615. I think he just meant similar responsibilities like paperwork, making sure people are doing their job, handling guest issues, etc. :)

Basically the Team Leaders / Assistant (Co) Team Leaders are the direct supervisor of a ride or location.

Manager of a small business?

No.

Basically the team leader is responsible for properly training any new employees on how the ride operates. They also sign employees in and out of the location, notify superiors of maintenance related issues, complete weekly staff schedule, and make sure the turnstile numbers match against the report which reflects how many riders were on the ride.

All "major decisions" are made by an area supervisor or member of management. I actually can't think of any "major decision" that a team leader would make without consulting with a superior.

Actually we do a lot. It's our job to call down a ride if we feel it is unsafe. We are not to call a sup first and say "oh well it sounds funny"
Shutting down the ride is a pretty big responsibility if you ask me. Just saying.

Would it make some of you feel better if he said "supervisor of a small business" instead of manager? Seriously... Forgive him for trying to make a comparison that was easy to understand... Jeez.

Yeah I'd say it's pretty involved and can be really stressful! The only thing I would say is different is the fact that we don't handle finances.

But what do we know, it's not like we've been in leadership before.

I would compare it more to a baseball team, with the team leader being the coach, over managing a small business.

Small business manager responsibilities similar to leaderships-
Open/close location at a reasonable time. Keep GUESTS and employees happy. Write schedules as well as assuring the location is staffed appropriately for the day. Manage paper work. Assure everyone gets their appropriate breaks according to hours. Make sure employee arrival and departure times are documented. Handling GUEST and employee issues/complaints. Making sure the location is safe for guests and employees. Notify higher ups of issues or concerns. Making timely decisions based on best judgement for guests and employees pleasure and safety. Making sure employees are well trained for their specific job duties. ALSO being an encouraging leader and role model.

I'd say small business is a very fair comparison. I am also involved with managing a small business.
