Road Construction

Thanks to OldCPer and Sirius for responding. It really helped me out. I think that I will take a dry run and see how it goes for me. I want to look like I know where I'm going when I head there with my girlfriend. You know how it is. You don't want to look like an idiot and get lost with your girlfriend riding in the car. I'm always the good one with directions so it would look bad if I couldn't even do it. ;) Thanks again for all your help.

Just got back last night and thought I'd let y'all know that we lost an hour in Toledo on 80/90 due to construction (one lane), and this was at about 9:00 in the evening, so some may want to detour around that if they're heading west.

Update on Road Construction:

US23 South is still down to 1 lane, but it flowed very well the morning of 5/14. I didn't have any problems at all.

I475 and I75 had heavy traffic, but im guessing thats normal 7 am traffic on those freeways

I-280 was still a mess, but it took me all of 5 minutes to go thru it. The exit to Route 2 isn't clearly marked, but at least I saw it! (I knew when it was coming up). 280 for the most part is just zig-zagging.. but the traffic was pretty light. Once on 2 it was smooth rolling all the way to CP. I did about 57 MPH from Oregon to Port Clinton, then 65 from there to 250. Traffic on 250 was very light (In fact, I dont think there was much CP traffic at all) and there was virtually no line at the parking attendants booths.

All in all a smooth trip construction wise.

I-280 Southbound from I-75 is closed, and I-280 Northbound from the Turnpike is closed. Found out the hard way yesterday, shame on me for not checking the construction updates before leaving! Still made it to the park in 2.5 hours tho from Pontiac, MI.
Hey Grue..Did they say how long I-280 is going to be closed from? That's the way I usually take and if I can't get on that road, then I don't really know another route to take. I was going to take Route 2 and I still want to. How can I get to Route 2 if I-280 southbound is closed? Since I live south of you, we both take the same route in to Ohio going I-75 south and what way did you take? I always need a back up plan. Thanks.

I guess I-280 is open during the weeks, closed on weekends.. at least that seems to be the trend. Anyway it was mentioned above how to get from 75 to 2 without using 280.

Sirius wrote up a few posts:

"Exit off on 201A “The Toledo Zoo” exit. The second light will be 2. Make a left and follow the signs which will take you through Toledo and across the Maumee River. the only tricky part taking this route--other than a couple of turns through Toledo--is the turn onto the bridge over the Maumee river. IIRC, there is no sign that says 2 to cross over the river. It almost seems like the sign was taken down. So, follow 51 over the river. Once you're accross, the route 2 signs are there again. Trust your instincts, and just remember that you have to cross the river. You sould be able to see the bridge while on 75 south--just before you exit at 201A. It looks like a miniature "Mackinac" bridge."

I took I-75 straight to the Turnpike... the toll went up a whole 20 cents... whoopie. Why they didn't warn that I-280 was closed on the Turnpike on the way back I don't know... I took I-75 anyway despite the lack of 'closed' signs, and when we passed the north end of it, it was in fact closed.

Guess they're learning from M-DOT on the 'no notice' thing.

Tekguy, you took 75 south all the way to the turnpike? Where did that link up with 75? Did you take 280 south to the turnpike or was that closed? I'm just still a little baffled that the exit to 280 south would be closed from 75 south. I understand that construction can make this happen, but I hope it's not for the entire summer. I'm just surprised because my boss went to CP on saturday and sunday and I told him to take 75 south to 280 south to route 2 east to route 6. He did tell me that 280 was closed and I was surprised by this because last wednesday I drove the exact route and it was open and there was no signs indicating that there would be a closure. Is 280 still closed from 75 south? I may have to take a short 30 minute drive to find out. I will also take the route Sirius explained just in case. You always need a back up plan. I guess if you look at the positive side, when this construction is over we'll have a nice new bridge and extra lanes to drive. Until this happens, it's going to be crazy.

280 appears to be closing on weekends only. This site was posted earlier and is the most up to date information:

http://www.dot.state.oh.us/dist2/construction.htm

It's updated every Friday. They are building a new bridge over the Maumee River to replace the drawbridge, with a completion date of 2006. Widening of 280 will continue through the summer.

Best bet is to check the above site just prior to any trips to CP.

Raptor Rider, 75 south meets the turnpike south of Toledo. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Friday Im heading in to Cedar Point from the Dayton area. Im taking 75 the entire way to Findlay and then Im catching 12 up to Fremont and then 6 the rest of the way in.

I know what to expect on 75 and 6, but does anyone know anything about 12 because I have never taking it? Also does anyone have a better way I should go? Thanks for the help
