Road Construction

But I don't want to use the turnpike!! I hate tolls..

I used to feel this way, too. However, I've decided that the 2 bucks is more than worth the pain and hassle of some other route. Penny wise but pound foolish and all that.

US 6 is the best route I've seen so far (for where I live). Generally you don't get any traffic, and it's funny because you can always pick out the cars heading to CP. Last year there was some traffic on 6 and we had to take a fairly long detour, but that was all.

The Matrix: Reloaded!

OK i went to CP on sunday and today (monday) we took the turnpike on sunday missed the exit for 2 on sunday due to constrution and a jerk van that wouldn't let me pass! found out 2 is the shortest and fastest way over.it is under 300 miles round trip to go from my house to CP. the turnpike is a few more miles longer yeah it has more lanes but 2 just moves so nicely. and 250 get way backed up by the SLOWEST McDonalds Ev-ar!! unfortunatly i have to stay in a hotel off of 250....but i will be leaving for the radisson to meet with a friend early for breakfast so i won't get stuck on the 250 yay! that and it looks like it is gonna be under construction maybe next weekend so yeah i am leaving early to get a bite to eat and chit chat with some friends.

Besides the great rides and being the best of everything, the best part about Cedar Point is that it isn't Six Flags! YAY!

Just an FYI on current road construction: I went to get my Season Pass yesterday. I left around 11:00, southbound on I-75 and just before the Rouge River Bridge traffic was at a standstill (south of the bridge it narrows to one lane!) Fortunately there was a detour posted and taking that I ended up in Southgate before I knew it. I'm not sure how bad this would be in the early morning (I'm planning to leave around 6am Sunday). So if you have to take I-75 southbound and traffic is backed up, take the detour (and watch the bumps!) - it will get you through much faster. It wasn't bad coming back at around 4:45pm (two lanes were open), and I-280 wasn't bad, despite the construction (apparently they are building a bigger bridge to replace that pesky drawbridge (thank God!).

hey Kev, aviod I-75 as much as possible! take 275 until it dumps onto 75 only like 20 miles north of ohio then it is a short shot over to 2 and then your there!

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately I live in the east side so 275 is too out of the way for me. But traffic shouldn't be too bad anyway as I'm leaving at 6 in the morning Sunday.

Here is a good route that I use from Michigan, that will avoid I-280 and parts of Route 2.

Take I-75 South to the St Rt 795 Ext, Take St Rt 795 East to I-280 South (this is after the construction), take I-280 to St. Rt. 163 take St Rt. 163 until you get to St. Rt. 2 before Port Clinton. Take St. Rt. 2 the rest of the way.

Cedar Point can not and will not be responsible for any thing lost or dammaged.

For those that take 6 to Cedar Point, do you take it through Fremont, or do you go around Fremont? I'm taking 6 for the first time in a few weeks and was just wondering how big of a pain Fremont is if any.
Lemme put it this way, it took me a minute to remember fremont at all. So no, none at all. No pain. Just follow 6. If I remember right it goes around the town anyway.

Okies, I've been planning how to get to CP for the past week based on what everyone has said here. AT ALL COSTS I've avoided I-75. So far the plan is to take a sure shot drive from Flint via US-23 to Ohio. Now, my question is, how do I get from US-23 to Rt. 2 without any major complications? And, is there a faster way than straight down US-23 to Rt. 2? Just wondering, 'cause I process in on Saturday...

The only way I know of is 475 to 75N to 280S to 2...

You could also go through the city of toledo, I suppose... Or just go to the turnpike.

For those of you taking 23 south into Ohio out of Michigan, there is construction near the border that can get pretty messy. It is down to one lane in spots. The construction is only on limited days so depending on when you go, you may miss the worst of it.

I was just through there on Sunday the 4th around 4am and traffic was non-existant, but driving through the concrete dividers can be tricky.

I live south of Detroit off of I-75 and I have already avoided the construction that is taking place farther north. I deal with it too much as it is. Anyways, I like the idea of taking Route 2, but I'm completly lost as to where it's located off of I-280. I know I would have to head eastbound on Route 2 and hopefully there would be signs to guide me to the point because I do much better with self-explanatory routes. I'm sure that there is a rather large sign posted that would help me find Route 2, but for the life of me, I can't remember exactly where it meets 280. Also, for those that have driven both Route 2 and the turnpike, how much faster is Route 2? Lets's say that construction was non-existant on the turnpike (like that will ever happen). Would Route 2 still be faster? Thanks in advance.

We always take route 2, and it's about 15-20 minutes faster considering you have to drive south further to hit the tunrpike, and back north again. Route 2 exit is located after the drawbridge, and there is a sign that says Oregon.

Route 2 is 4 lanes with a center turn lane out of Oregon, then goes to a 2 lane until you get past the Nuclear Power Plant (about 20 minutes). Then it opens up to a freeway.

Once you go over the Edison Bridge (can't miss it), you have a couple of choices. You can get off on route 6, which basically squirrels around through town. You have to be kind of careful watching for signs, but this will drop you off on the Causeway just north of the McDonald's and Breakers Express.

OR you can continue on until you reach 250.

For anyone traveling from US 23 you can take 475 east. Continue on going 75 south. Exit off on 201A “The Toledo Zoo” exit. The second light will be 2. Make a left and follow the signs which will take you through Toledo and across the Maumee River.

It’s a pretty good route which will completely avoid all the construction on 280 and the draw bridge.

Thank you for your help OldCPer. Now that you have answered the main question, I just have 2 very minor questions. This can be answered by anyone. Is heading towards Oregon or whatever the direction I want to go? When I think of Oregon, I think of the state and I had no idea there was anything called Oregon in the state of Ohio. Also, is 250 the road that cuts through Sandusky where you can see Great Bear Lodge and places like that. I used to take the turnpike and get off at exit 7. Was that 250 I was driving? I hope Route 6 isn't too confusing. Would it be faster for me to take Route 6 or get on 250? Sorry I'm asking all these questions but I kind of want to try a new route and it should be nice. I was never too familiar with the road names on my old route because it's one of those situations where you just know where you're going and you don't pay attention to what road you are on. Thanks

Thanks sirius! I'm going to CP on Wednesday, so if 280 is closed I will use that route :) wish me luck.... Darn Ohio construction.

No problem! the only tricky part taking this route--other than a couple of turns through Toledo--is the turn onto the bridge over the Maumee river. IIRC, there is no sign that says 2 to cross over the river. It almost seems like the sign was taken down. So, follow 51 over the river. Once you're accross, the route 2 signs are there again.

Trust your instincts, and just remember that you have to cross the river. You sould be able to see the bridge while on 75 south--just before you exit at 201A. It looks like a miniature "Mackinaw" bridge.

Good Luck!

If you’re on 280 you will want to get off at exit 7—this will be Route 2 or Navarre Ave. You can take this to 6 or you can continue on and exit at 250. Route 250 is the same exit that has the Great Bear Lodge.

I’m not sure which one is faster—6 or 250—but I always take 6 just to avoid all the traffic on 250. Route 6 makes a lot of turns and “half” turns, but if you like to avoid cars this is the way to go.
