But I don't want to use the turnpike!! I hate tolls..
I used to feel this way, too. However, I've decided that the 2 bucks is more than worth the pain and hassle of some other route. Penny wise but pound foolish and all that.

Take I-75 South to the St Rt 795 Ext, Take St Rt 795 East to I-280 South (this is after the construction), take I-280 to St. Rt. 163 take St Rt. 163 until you get to St. Rt. 2 before Port Clinton. Take St. Rt. 2 the rest of the way.

You could also go through the city of toledo, I suppose... Or just go to the turnpike.
I was just through there on Sunday the 4th around 4am and traffic was non-existant, but driving through the concrete dividers can be tricky.

Route 2 is 4 lanes with a center turn lane out of Oregon, then goes to a 2 lane until you get past the Nuclear Power Plant (about 20 minutes). Then it opens up to a freeway.
Once you go over the Edison Bridge (can't miss it), you have a couple of choices. You can get off on route 6, which basically squirrels around through town. You have to be kind of careful watching for signs, but this will drop you off on the Causeway just north of the McDonald's and Breakers Express.
OR you can continue on until you reach 250.

It’s a pretty good route which will completely avoid all the construction on 280 and the draw bridge.

Thanks sirius! I'm going to CP on Wednesday, so if 280 is closed I will use that route :) wish me luck.... Darn Ohio construction.
No problem! the only tricky part taking this route--other than a couple of turns through Toledo--is the turn onto the bridge over the Maumee river. IIRC, there is no sign that says 2 to cross over the river. It almost seems like the sign was taken down. So, follow 51 over the river. Once you're accross, the route 2 signs are there again.
Trust your instincts, and just remember that you have to cross the river. You sould be able to see the bridge while on 75 south--just before you exit at 201A. It looks like a miniature "Mackinaw" bridge.
Good Luck!

Is heading towards Oregon or whatever the direction I want to go? When I think of Oregon, I think of the state and I had no idea there was anything called Oregon in the state of Ohio. Also, is 250 the road that cuts through Sandusky where you can see Great Bear Lodge and places like that. I used to take the turnpike and get off at exit 7. Was that 250 I was driving? I hope Route 6 isn't too confusing. Would it be faster for me to take Route 6 or get on 250?
If you’re on 280 you will want to get off at exit 7—this will be Route 2 or Navarre Ave. You can take this to 6 or you can continue on and exit at 250. Route 250 is the same exit that has the Great Bear Lodge.
I’m not sure which one is faster—6 or 250—but I always take 6 just to avoid all the traffic on 250. Route 6 makes a lot of turns and “half” turns, but if you like to avoid cars this is the way to go.
