Today I was looking at the 2003 park map vs the 2013 park map. It seems as if every area of the park has had something change besides the Blue Streak area. I honestly think this is going to be the next area to have work be done on it. I would love to see a path from the Blue Streak area to Luminosity and have a coaster added.
^See my last post that is 2 above yours. I noticed the same thing, I can even see the park adding another coaster soon after Gatekeeper.
If we see those utility pavement markings (at the end of this season/beginning of next) around the Turnpike cars area or Cedars Dorms then we might be onto something. Time will tell....
I am calling it now. Dark ride in the old pirate ride building next year. Or maybe even a roller coaster but from what has been said I think a dark ride is much more likely.
I would love to even have a coaster even if it did the same thing as the dark ride. Then our coaster count could be back up to 17
I have been reading this post and a couple others about the future of CP. I was at the park on the 4th and I would like to expound on ideas others have mentioned here, as well as other rumors and happenings within Cedar Fair that could lead to future developments at the Point. I would like to throw out some ideas of my own on topics others have stated and these are in no particular order nor will I suggest when they would/could occur.
First, let's look at the beach area between Wind Seeker and Gate Keeper. Take into account what Knott's has just completed with their boardwalk area. Remove Wicked Twister - move it elsewhere in the park or place at another CF park - remove the Oceana stadium. Create a true boardwalk from Gatekeeper to Windseeker with a couple of flat rides right on the beach. There would also be room for a couple more between the Giant Wheel and Windseeker on the "inside" of the boardwalk. Add to that a Wild Mouse ride like the one added to Knotts behind the Coliseum on the other side of the current walkway - theme it to the boardwalk or theme it to Planet Snoopy. What you have now done is created an area of the park with family rides, good capacity, and have opened up the beach and the views of the lake to the park, creating a tradition seashore atmosphere. Some have recommended that Kiddieland needs to be removed. Should that occur, one of the rides that could go right on the beach would be the Kiddieland Carousel. But adding three other flat rides - different, inexpensive - fills holes that CP has in its lineup.
Following on that idea, it has been mentioned about dark rides and the Coliseum. Taking a good look at it, it could be done. I believe the first floor is big enough to accomodate a dark ride, taking up about 75% of the rear of the building, keeping the front portion as a smaller arcade. This would also not interfere with the restrooms and operations center and preserve the historical ballroom. The ride could then be themed, if necessary, to Planet Snoopy and have its entrance either on the north or southside of the building, or have the entrance on the southside with an exit that deposits guests into Planet Snoopy and or Snoopy Boutique. This can be done with or without the removal of Kiddieland. I would also expect a complete historical refurbishment of the exterior of the Coliseum as well. Personally, I would like to see a spooky themed dark ride, one that would tie in with Halloweekends with a ghostly persona that the Coliseum could evoke. Do not however try to theme this ride similarly to that at KI. Lets use some imagination rather than placing similar rides so close to gether at different parks. Plus, trying to re-theme Scooby-Doo makes it look like a generic Scooby-Doo - boring.
Speaking of Kiddieland being removed. I do not disagree with that thought. As mentioned, some of the rides could be relocated. Back to the boardwalk theme, the historical rides such as the Kiddie Whip, Rockets and Helicopters could be placed, with the carousel on or near the boardwalk, still within close proximity to the other kid rides at Planet Snoopy but keeping a non-Peanuts name/theme. Some of the other rides could be relocated to Camp Snoopy as well as across from the Gemini kids area - especially the Mini Dodgems, and a couple of the "vintage" Hampton rides. This still allows for childrens areas at both the front and back of the park but without the overkill some have suggested and without a scattering around the park - still centraly located in both areas.
Speaking of the Kiddieland Carousel. Another option for it would be to place it in Frontiertown. Frontiertown could used a couple of smaller rides to increase ride capacity and possibly help tie in some lost theming elements. Not the old carousel building though - that can't happen without creating a new storage/hauted attraction somewhere else. My thought is to remove whats left of the White Water Canyon loading area. I think that the building as it is with the shop and queue lines takes up too much space. Remove it and put the carousel there next to the Frontier Inn (Chik-fil-A) behind the Antique Cars under the trees. A nice park like setting. Reconfigure the queue lines and exit/shop for Maverick behind the refreshment stand (fill in the scummy, litter-filled pond). Mine Ride - I like it, but as others have said, it could use a redesign. Keep it but rebuild it with up to date thrills like Big Thunder Mountain.
Blue Streak Midway - agree. Remove Turnpike cars, Calypso, Goodtime Theater, (don't really need an ice skating show) tear down the Cedar Dorms, move the road and add a coaster and a couple of other smaller thrill rides and/or flat rides (maybe a relocated Calypso). Would love to see a second dark ride back in the old Pirate Ride building - ideally a remake of the Pirate Ride. Keep the Goodtime Theater only if it would not interfere with a proper redevelopment of the area. Personally, I believe that if and when the Cedar Dorms are taken down, CF will put in another resort there on the Marina side - that is what Oiumet is about. Digressing, this new midway would also be a good fit for a relocated Wicked Twister - right along the road running from Blue Streak to the engine shed. Again, that goes with my thought about a resort where the dorms are. This would mean that the theater is removed and more high capacity flat and smaller thrill rides can be added and/or the Luminosity show can be moved. Place a amphitheater style venue in place of the theater, getting rid of the mess that is a blocked midway during showtime. This venue can then be used during the daytime for another show to replace the ice spectacular.
Adventure Island - gotta get rid of the up charge for the Dinos. Incorporate them into an outdoor ride thru ride as other parks have done copying a Jurassic Park-like ride. Add a new observation tower on the island so that those that cannot ride the tall thrill rides can get the panaramic views of the lake and the surrounding islands. Where else can you put up an observation tower that actually has a view to been seen.
As far as Corkscrew goes. Again I like the fact that it not only is a starter coaster for the up and coming enthusiasts, but it has the iconic over-the-midway corkscrew. Now, if a new ride can be built that in corporates some of the Corkscrews old track/features or a new one that will duplicate them, I'm all for it. Gold Dorms can go away along with the Cedars with off point housing, but I wouldn't expand the park beyond where its limits are now over there. Place some of the support buildings that are currently behind the Gemini restrooms up there where the Gold Dorms are and use that area in the back for something new.
These are some of my thoughts. I'm sure there are those that will disagree. But with discussion comes good ideas from the group and maybe these good ideas will get noticed by the powers that be.
^I see you don't have much to say,haha!...I'm surprised I didn't see you there yesterday, was there from 10am-11pm and boy did that traffic suck getting out. Anyhow, alot of good ideas. I never thought of the Coliseum/dark ride idea, not bad. My thoughts are also for a coaster for 2015, I would also like to see a dark ride next year, something along the lines of a Disneyworld or Kennywood one. Believe it or not, the "powers that be" do read this page.
Love the Oceana stadium removal, it's an eyesore and outdated and your ideas about the flats going there are cool. One big hindrance, the complex electric cables running thru the main preferred parking area to WT, and now under Gatekeeper would make it's relocation tough.
I'm all for the Kiddieland carousel's relocation to Frontiertown, even in the old building next to ChickFilA. That area needs one badly. I was sad to see the other go.
Think almost everyone's in agreement with Blue Streak midway (way overdue) but keep Calypso, refurbish back to it's original glory with heart lights and backdrop, but use LED's to save on power and move it by the beach once again like it was in 1969.
The observation tower idea is unique for MF island, it beats the dinos, or even put one between the Gemini and Mean Streak space and relocate Planning/Design and paramedics units.
I'm for keeping Corkscrew (yes, it's a great starter) where it is but removing Gold dorms. They're hideous like the Cedars. I'm hoping that $60 mil over the next 3 years is getting these employees some new living areas. Not bad ideas at all....
I would hate to see WT leave where it is now, although the boardwalk would be awesome.
They wouldn't take out Jr. Gemini, the little kids need a Coaster too. I don't think they will take out Mean Streak, look at thing it probably took forever to build. Iron Dragon is over the pond thing what would they do with that?
Maybe they will take out the Mine Ride IT SHAKES
It always shakes, which any wooden framed coaster does. There is an old saying among wooden coaster builders, (and the people who maintain them) if it doesn't shake, it will break.

So does every other coaster in the park.
2003 - Wicked Twister
2004 - Wicked Twister/Top Thrill Dragster
puppy43000 when you get in high school take physics. You will learn why roller coasters shake and why they will break if they don't. Pay attention, it's amazing what you learn school!

...and so the teasers begin. (toward the end of it)
All I can figure out so far is that CP opened in 1870, not sure what else the date would stand for in the park, any thoughts?
It will be a new retro logo for the park or a new logo for the Breakers as they go forward with the planned refurbishment.
The Raptor/Blue Streak area does need some new stuff, but if anybody TOUCHES Blue Streak itself, we riot!
I wonder if it's the same thing he posted in this tweet. For all the historical Cedar Point enthusiasts, when was that logo used? I noticed it on the Antique Cars when I was at the park the other day.
Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
