The ridership of the rides is usually up by now. I wonder if they are not going to post it this year?

Ryan, our rider numbers will not likely be posted in the future. We may feature this information on the blog, but you will no longer see it on the rides pages.
I don't understand why they ever posted the numbers to begin with. I'm not aware of any other park that does that for each individual ride on their websites.
Perhaps it's because they strive so hard for ridership (one of the best in the country) so they wanted to display the numbers to solidify it.

^ I'm pretty sure that's not it... I know maXair had a great year! I would love to see the #'s!

The numbers at the gate were down quite a bit this past summer, so the ridership numbers are bound to be down as well.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Numbers at the gate, while they may play a small roll in ridership, really don't play as big a deal as you may think. All that really matters is that the crew gets people through the line with full trains. I mean as long as the line is moving, it doesn't matter if the wait is 30 min or an hour.

CP & LE Raildroad was probably number one in ridership as usual. We all know that.
Yep, just 14,000 shy of 2 million riders.

CP& LE railroad always has the highest nimber of riders. It's a capacity hog. I wonder if they count the people that stay on the train every trip around?
If the numbers at the gate are down, the numbers at the rides are going to be down. There were some weekends durring the summer, where the parking lot was only half full.
I sure hope the numbers go north this year.
I think that if they were to offer some package deals at decent discounts, and lower the cost of food in the park, the numbers will go up.
I work for a tour bus comany, and you would be amazed at how many kids are packing there own lunch because the food costs too much. Sure the kids still buy junk food in the park, but when it comes to lunch or a meal they are brown bagging it.
Castaway bay has a package for $219 for 2 nights. If you break it all down, it's not a very good deal. That comes out to $109 per night. There are a hundred hotels near cedarpoint with nice rooms for $50-$70 or less per night on buisy weekends. Not a good deal.
The cheapest room I could find at hotel breakers was $98 a night in the old wing. The rooms in the old wing are so outdated and are in dire need of any kind of upgrade. Again...not a good deal.
I am not sure what the deal is with breakers express(so called value resort), but the prices there last year were just something to laff at.
I have never stayed at sandcastle suites so I can't commit on the rooms, but the prices are very high.
The campground(at least thats what they call it), is a joke at $80 a night in the summer. And you can't have campfires or even ride a bike. It's nothing more than a cement slab.
Lighthouse point seems to be the best value in the park. I have yet to stay there, but I hear good things about it.
Anyway, I am getting away from the subject at hand.

Bah, I was really hoping to see ridership numbers on their website this year. I even asked about it, but I never got a response. I like to compare the numbers from prior years just to see how popular a specific ride is/was from recent years. I guess that's going to be gone now. I blame the economy and maybe Cedar Point just doesn' t want to go through the hassle anymore.
It shouldn't be much of a hassle uploading the numbers to the Website. They already have compiled the info throughout the summer.

I doubt it has anything to do with the "hassle" of it but rather they just don't want to make those number public anymore.
Makes me wonder why they won't do that anymore. Maybe the numbers were just really low last year and they are embarassed about it?
Let me be clear: nobody here at the park is embarrassed by our impeccable rider numbers and we're not doing anything "sneaky" to cover anything up.
The numbers will no longer be posted because we're switching to a new display of information (which should be coming soon), and this information does not include those numbers. Rider numbers are irrelevant to guests looking for basic ride information. We know it's interesting to some people, but to the vast majority, it's not.
Director of Communications at Cedar Point
Aren't the rider numbers fairly inelastic for the more popular rides anyway? If I'm at the park on a so called "off" day, and I find a 15 min. line for Maverick instead of a 60 min. line, I might ride 3 or 4 times instead of once. Either way the trains are going out full and the rider numbers should be about the same.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
True......
But at the end of the day when they close the line down, instead of 1000 people getting in the line before the ride closes, you now only have 500. Times that by however many operaiting days there are in a season, and the numbers are going to be down. That's a big drop.
The numbers I am using were just a guess, but I am using them just for the sake of argument.

Thanks for clearing it up, Tony! Shame though, our crew last year at Dragster achieved the all-time seasonal high on the very last day of the season! If anyone wants that number, it was 1,217,886 :)
