As a first year you will have a comprehensive park training that will include a tour of the park and general information you may need to know about the park. Every first year has to complete this.

Depending on your contract date, you may/may not have received an email from Cedar Point Training describing all the training information you will need. You can complete online training and if successful, you may be able to be exempt from certain aspects of training (but I may be wrong - esp. dealing with first year employees). I would wait until you receive the email with the information as it will be very resourceful to you.

Best of luck to you this summer. If you have any questions, you can IM me at CPMantisBrian or email cp_brian@hotmail.com.

They have me coming out on May 2nd, 6 days before the park opens. Will training really take that long or am I going to have to find something else to do for the other days?
When you come out on the second, the six days before you will be training at your location.

Ahh, preseason training. Yes, cycling empty trains in the frigid arctic breeze coming off of Lake Erie. Checking empty harnesses, and cursing the person in controls *cough*MAT*cough* who keeps announcing that "Harnesses have been released, Ride Hosts, please recheck all harnesses, recheck all harnesses."

< sarcasm > YEAH... it's loads of fun. < /sarcasm >

last year i came up 6 days before the park opened you mainly clean ur ride up like a normal startign day then they cycle empty then if your a lucky crew you might get to test a differnt ride so the crew gets use to checking and all that good stuff preseason pretty much is cleaning liek you would normally do at the begining of ur work day then cyclying and testing you for controls if your on a coaster that you have to take visual board ur tl and atl help you out but us returnes hopeful its not that hard for us :)

:)

Well for my 1st yr, I did the online test, and when I got to the park, I went directly to work, I had no 4 hr orientation which is really cp's fault for not scheduling me for one, and is what probably messed up my season because I don't know the ins and outs on certain procedures, lol. CP management needs to step up their skills a little bit more. Good luck 1st yr employees, I'll see you all at the point in July where I will be a guest, how lovely, but I admire all my fellow employees.

Each ride really has it's own style of training and operation. That and it really depends on the TL and ATL and how they train. I've been on rides where training was very extensive and then I've been on rides where the training was fun and lighthearted (albeit saftey still the number one thing). Each ride is different, including coasters. The difference in training and operation from Gemini to Mean Streak to Mine Ride is HUGE. The only real similarity between the three is the lift walk, checking the bars and seatbelts, and dispatching the train. Then you have the circulars (where training for the rides includes controls on your first day) where it goes by a little easier and faster. Having been trained for about 15 rides last season really got me to see how things are done under different leadership and supervision.

Training lasts as long as you need it really. I think I trained for Gemini about three days before I really had it down. Mostly because I was so scared to get spiels down and get on the mic :)!

Other than that, pay attention to your training! You don't want to get written up because you didn't follow procedure and slipped up.

As for the park orientation, it's pretty fun. I had the one lady that walked faster than I could run, and keeping up was a challenge in itself! Classroom training was fun with the roleplaying (I was a distraught and rude employee!) and the character bingo. Then you head on a park tour that covers EVERYTHING from bathrooms, lockers, gates, rides, food stands... it goes on. It's really an in depth look at the park. CP should make tours like these for the GP, there is a lot of "hidden" history that I never knew about the park until I took the class.

Hope this helps, and excuse the rambling!

2004 - ???????????

Training on Millennium was so easy. Stevie taught me everything i needed to know in four hours and then i was on my own because he was a split that day. sure i was asked if i needed help but its so easy to pick up on that i didnt even need help. and controls i learned in five minutes and then practiced a couple of times and i was good to go. training really isn't too bad. :)

What Kind of training do the Blue Tags go through when they first get there? I can kinda of get a hint of what they do but i just wanna know what else they do.
Do employees get to ride during training week?

For the most part.. no..

There may be some ride nights the week before the park opens so that the crews can deal with real people.. but don't plan on riding that week..

And if you keep asking your sups and such, almost plan on your crew NOT being one asked if they need one.

For the people in leadership, we go to a leadership seminar and have a week of training (if you're there that early, if not, you get smaller doses of it, although I don't know what's going to happen this year with the park being open for good after opening day). There, you learn to make schedules, fill out paper work and learn basic operating procedures such as calling a ride down. The team leaders of each location are usually trained by their supervisor, but begin training thier crew soon thereafter.
