As for other rides that have shown some roughness over the past season that I noticed. Mean Streak does seem to be getting worse and even though no one agrees with me, but Wicked Twister seems to be getting worse. Though I think the ride runs better in the early part of the season since I noticed some roughness in Oct. 2003 but it wasn't there in May 2004. Every other ride seems to be just as good as it always does.
CP has fixed one roughness issue and that is Blue Streak. I don't get it, but that ride is awesome, the airtime and out of control feeling is great. It just shows what you can do with a small older coaster that goes only 40mph can do.

Magnum is one of those rides that changes roughness also. The very first time I rode it was August 2003, my first time at the park. I absolutely loved it, i rode it about 4 times that day. The next time I returned was May 24 2004 (us Canadians get a long weekend for Victoria day). I rode Magnum again and it was the worst ride i ever took on it. I am one to hold my hands up throughout the ride but i couldn't. The ride was so rough i had to hold on the entire time so that I wouldn't be in extreme pain, even my onride photo shows me holding on and my face with an extreme look of pain on it. Finally the last time I went was October 2004. I rode Magnum and it was the best ride I ever took on it. It was so smooth I could hold my hands up the whole time with out being in horrible pain.
All roller coasters are different, Millenium is one of those that are always smooth no matter what, I've never had any problems with roughness on that. Mean Streak and Magnum are the two that change the most, at least in my experiences, and you just have to wait and see what it will be like. Like Ary said wooden coasters are rough, and the same applies to Magnum. You can't forget, Mean Streak is 13 years old and Magnum is 15, they are bound to loose their smoothness with age. If you don't like the roughness then don't ride them.

Well here is some advice DON't ride it 5 times in a row. It will rewin your trip. You will be sore for a week or two. I brused like an internal organ riding that thing. But I still love it.
"rewin?"
Maybe I should change my major from Music Education to English Education. :)

Mean Streak is known for being rough. It's like SoB. If it were smooth, it just wouldn't be the same!
Top Five:
1)TTD 2)MF 3)Magnum 4)Raptor 5)WT

Did you ever think that I might of been in a rush? Or made a typo and forgot to fix it? Hummm well ill let you decide.

I like MS just how it is. Wood coasters are rough, or rougher then steel coasters. If you dont want a rough ride dont get on a wood coaster.
I have rode many wood coaster's that are not rough. (ie: Shivering Timbers, Corn Ball Express, Raven, Hoosier Hurricane, Legend) to name a few. Wood coasters are rougher then the steal coasters true, but most are enjoyable to ride unlike Mean Streak! I even like to ride the Blue Streak!

Erm, Shivering Timbers isn't exactly a smooth coaster. The helix at the end is very painful for me. It's the only coaster that has given me pain that lasted for more than 10 minutes.
As for Mean Streak. I like it the way it is.
Magnum gets nice new wheels early in the season. As the year goes on, the wheels wear out. This causes some space between the wheels and the track which may cause some of the late season roughness. I'm no engineer, so don't take my word as fact.
SUCCESS! i think i have an explanation to the mean streak roughness conflict! When the wood is wet, as on days when it has rained, the track gives a bit, providing a much smoother ride. On dry days, the wood doesn't give as much, causing a bumpier sensation. im pretty sure that is right, at least it sounds good, if anyone has a bone to pick go for it!

If you look closely at the ride, it has PVC pipe all over it. When it's too dry, they "water" it.

really? i thought the pipes were for electrical wiring for lighting and such

Personally I think Magnum was way rougher this year and it seemed to me that Mean Streak was a wee bit smoother. as for raptor i enjoyed my trip, and gemini was a lil bit bumpy.
The world looks better at 420 feet in the air... first ride May 14th, 2005
only 997 laps left on MF..
So i resurrect dead post... is that a bad thing?
Well since Vince's post was from 12-29-04 I guess that means he didn't have a time machine to warp forward to know that. Can we pleas stop reserecting these old threads?
First trip June 23rd
I like to use this as my argument for any "omq it's liek too ruff" argument, it's just cooler that way. Part of the excitement of a roller coaster is the feeling of pushing your body to the max in a way that nothing else can reproduce. Rides like Mean Streak, Dragster, RipCord, SoB, those are the only places you can really get those experiences.
