Ride or Rollercoaster

Just a thought, but if the new ride will consist of a l-th-b will Cedar Point promote this as a ride or a rollercoaster? Since this will will be somewhat similar to Superman the Escape which CP never acknowledged as being a coaster I would almost consider it to be a ride. Also if this were the case CP could claim to have the tallest rollercoaster in America as well as the worlds largest thrill ride, in addition it would further resolve the fact that rides like STE are not rolloercoasters.

Just look at Wicked Twister.

Well if you look at it, it uses roller coaster trains (not proven yet, but duh), is full circut, uses gravity to run through the course after the launch, and it rolls and coasts. It sure sounds like a roller coaster to me.

Right now, it's a "major thrill ride for 2003".

I'm sure, especially considering it is full-circuit, and will use "standard" trains, that it will be billed as a rollercoaster once the announcement comes.

Spell it with me... R O L L E R C O A S T E R...

It will be a coaster...

I agree as well, Project 2003 is a rollercoaster (no question).

But it will feel like a ride, just like WT and Superman at MM. They are both great rides and project 2003 will be as well. I prefer coasters like Xcelerator or MF, that dont stop right after they start.

I agree, Tom.

To me, a true coaster runs out their speed through the course - coasting to their stop.

the difference between S:TE and #16, plain and simple, is continuous circuit.

Thats all there is to it.

I hope that's not your only basis for what makes a rollercoaster. What's Wicked Twister?

"To me, a true coaster runs out their speed through the course - coasting to their stop."

So I guess you wouldn't call Tonnere de Zeus (often voted the world's best woodie) - which slams into its brake run with almost no speed lost over its circuit - a "true coaster" then?

Just asking.

I have to agree! I've always thaught that "boomerangs", "shuttles", etc., were not real roller coasters.

The difference between the two is that S:TR has only a single element which is maybe a touch different than their first generation freefalls in that the car gets launched up it. It's just not doing enough to be called a coaster. Up the down w/ nothing else involved isn't going to cut it.

Or so the argument goes.

its not my only basis, and thats exactly why there is such a debate over S:TE

I personally consider WT to be a thrill ride. Its fun, but doesn't go anywhere. I like the journey part, even if its short and compact like Wildcat. However to get back on the topic I believe CP will advertise "Dragster" as a coaster. Since WT is more like S:TE than "Dragster".

I'm not saying anything that doesn't loose speed thru the course isn't a rollercoaster. I just think those are the TRUE and CLASSIC rollercoasters.
It may be we have to come up with a new catagory of ride

woodies :wood track and or frame

steel: any ride made of all steel

HYBRIDS: any combination of wood and steel any launcher( lim air etc)

Rollercoaster ride.

Rollercoasters are rides, but rides are not neccesarily rollercoasters.
