I was wondering how many people are required to run certain rides. For instance it takes 8 for Iron Dragon ( 1 one entrance, four loaders, two unload (one on speil),and controls). I was wondering how many are used for rides like Millenium Force and Raptor, etc. Also how many are used for the flat rides such as Troika and Chaos.

well,i know that the flat rides like chaos and troika have (2) people running the ride...
1:ride op
2:loading/unloading person.
max on Raptor is 10.
1 at entrance,1 at crowd,3 at load,3 at unload, 1 at controls, and 1 at exit. We have run with 7 at times though when we were understaffed. It varies on how many people are on the crew.

Disaster Crew 1997-1999
Raptor 2000
Turnpike Cars / Calypso = 10
2 working Calypso
8 on 'Pikes (1 entrance, 5 jumping cars, 2 as break relief)
Disaster Transport = 5ish
Entrance, Crowd Control, load, unload, controls + whoever is doing breaks.
Midway Carousel/Cedar Downs = 5
3 on Cedar Downs, 1 on Midway Carousel, 1 on break.

Actually, the max on Raptor is 11 working + 3 break = 14 total. (On busy days, Raptor adds 'portables' or 'long entrance'")

Chaos has three when staffing is available: entrance, exit, controls.
This is because if possible rotation through Chaos/Troika/Super Himalaya starts at Chaos so it can be done every half hour instead of waiting for people to get done with breaks.

At MF, I believe we had as many as 17, and as few as 10. Just depends on the time of season, weather, and the amount of people hired for the crew. GILLBIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's up dude??
I was not thinking of breaks so EXCUSE ME Higbie!!!!hehe
If I remember correctly, we usually *tried* to run Tower with 18 in the afternoon (open and close with 15). That's a helluva lotta people to look after . . props go out to my former TL, Kris Leonard.
(8 platform)+(4 controls)+(2 turnstiles)+
(1 entrance)+(3 break) = 18

If I start in late may/ early june... will it be hard for me to get a job in ride ops? they're supposed to call me this week... but i just wanna know... i don't wanna get stuck picking up trash or serving burgers and fries to people...

Getting off of a train with nobody there to pick you up in the middle of the ghetto really sucks
Its so amazing to see how many people work on a single ride at CP. That's why the park is so amazing cause the crews are so efficient! At SFMM they will run a ride like Viper or Goliath with only 2 people! That's one person checking load and one person checking unload and doing controls at the same time! Oh well.

When I rode Goliath at SFMM on Jan 1st, there were 3 people working.. one load.. one unload.. and a floater who helped check the unload side seats.. then ran to controls...

Gemini has 9 people to run the ride with full staffing. Entrance, front crowd, back crowd, 4 platforms (2 on red, 2 on blue) and 2 control positions. When running one side however, we can make do with only 3 people. One on entrance, on one platform, and one on controls. This is what we did during the last few bonus weekends.

9 positions in 4 1/2 hours and still keepin' both sides happy!
CP definately runs things better than other parks. Like when I was visiting PKD one time, the operator on Volcano had a coke and a bag of chips and was paying no attention to the ride. That's comforting when you're about to be shot 0-70 in 3 seconds. The Sup at PKD, when i worked there, asked me how CP can have so many people on their ride staff, how do they afford it. I told him it's b/c we actually care about safety. He didn't like that.

Well, im not saying CP is any better than any other park or the opposite. I was just stating its amazing how so many people are on one given ride at a time. Also, Disney is another place that comes to mind with lots of people on rides. Especially California Screamin with 6 train op, wow!
