Ride Color Schemes

The thread talking about the repainting of the Monster made me think of some of the paint choices on the rides at CP. What rides do you think have a bad color scheme and what colors would you choose, and what are some rides do you think look good?

My bad choices would be Raptor and Mantis. I think Raptor should be black or dark gray with green trim. I think Mantis should be a medium green with a lighter green trim. Basically, I think the ride should be themed to its name.

I think Gatekeeper, Millennium, and Blue Streak all look great. Technically, I would think the name Gatekeeper would give me a darker impression but the ride colors look fantastic and impressive at the entrance with the lake in view. I also think Maverick looks pretty good, blue would not fit back there in Frontier Town.

I would love to see Iron Dragon with some different colors. Maybe gray and red? The orange and red combination just clashes so much!

I do love how Gatekeeper and Blue Streak look! Very crisp.

I think Gatekeeper has the best color scheme, Iron Dragon has the worst. I believe when Iron Dragon opened it did have a gray and red color scheme.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I Think Raptor has one of the worst. Im ok with green being somewhere in the color scheme but three different shades of green for the box, rails, and supports is not really appealing to me. I too believe that Gatekeeper has the best color scheme. I always found myself taking countless pictures of it on crystal clear days because the color scheme reflects so well off of the sky!

Scratch what I said about what I'd have Raptor for its color scheme. I have a chronic problem of thinking of velociraptor (which doesn't even fly) or the raptor bird dinosaur for Raptor when CP clearly meant predatory bird. I think its because Jurassic Park came out not long before the ride opened and was wildly popular. I don't know exactly what I'd choose for Raptor but the green colors on it always seemed like it would have been better fit for Mantis. Again, get rid of the pink. Maybe dark gray, brownish red, and white.

That shade of blue for Blue Streak always gives off a nostalgic look. I think its perfect for it.

I still appreciate Corkscrew's colors, too, and am glad they have stuck with the bicentennial theme honoring its debut year.

I agree, Gatekeeper is almost like a work of art. I don't know if I've ever seen a better looking coaster in all aspects.

I actually like Raptor's color (when it's not covered in seagull crap). It's unique and stand out. My two favorite are GateKeeper and Mantis, and I also love how impressive and dominant Millennium looks.

I agree with others, Iron Dragon is the worst. There's already enough yellow/orange/red in that area of the park with Dragster and Mantis.

In the future, I'd love to see a green track, blue support coaster. I also think black, purple, and white would be a cool color combo. Also maybe a bright orange track would be nice to have. I'm ready for some more variety and more bold colors in coasters at the park.

Iron Dragon had its perfectly appropriate gray and red scheme repainted when TTD opened, presumably to make Ronald McDonald seem more at home.

It's a cop out, but wildcat's final paint: The essence of clown puke. Between WC and Iron Dragon, whoever was in charge of paint at that time must have been color blind.

Iron Dragon... I hate it. I would rather it be gray and black. The red/yellow is disgusting, especially next to Dragster (meh to that too).

I also vote the one kiddy coaster. Why on earth is a kiddy ride so dull and lifeless in color? I hope they paint it before next season.

I think everyone agrees Dragon Iron needs a change of pace, I also think Matterhorn could use an update. Woodstock express is a dull color but somewhat fits the theme.

I wish Raptor had a yellow and grey color scheme rather than the chroma-key green scheme. The Iron Dragon colors don't really bother me that much, but it would look much better with a dark grey support.

Favorite part of this post so far "the ride should be painted to match it's theme." Very true but let's look at CP and their skilled theming throughout their non children's areas. Hurricane Hannah's (sign relocated from GL) next to the Bourbon Street themed French Fry shop. Unused Pirate building next to a "sports bar." My personal favorite Panda Express on the Frontier Trail.

As for rides Top Thrill Dragster...High School Bleachers, a sign that says finish, and lights with sound effects that work most of the time. Shoot the rapids.. A few signs, a tunnel, and some buildings grey buildings. Maverick is the best they have done as of late...but most of that was there from SRF.

I am happy if the paint looks crisp and clean at this point.

Are you discounting the efforts of the Chinese immigrants who helped build the railroads of the American frontier?

Not at all...I am sure they would be proud their culture has been reduced to cheap tasteless food served in every mall in America.

I've always been a fan of Mantis' paint scheme, because it's so different. It utilizes primary colors, and it sticks out.

My least favorite is probably Raptor. I think it should definitely be a darker color scheme, maybe black spine, with green track and gray supports? Or something that would represent a bird of prey.

2010: Millennium Force & Mantis
2011: Raptor
2012: Raptor, Sky Ride and Wicked Twister

I'd love to see Iron Dragon return to it's old look:

Agreed ^

The yellow they added with that red is just borderline obnoxious... I would love grey supports back... Or grey supports with black track. Something grungy, dark and fitting to the name.

I kind of think banshees colors would look cool on Iron Dragon.

More pink and purple?

Some Mantis color likes here but I still think a Praying Mantis should be green.

TheRealMaverick, good point about how there is no rhyme or reason to a lot of the food stands and it's just a mish-mash.

Are you talking about the lime green and lavender?
Maybe it's the same person who decided to add lavender to Gemini's station and stairs.

Not to ruin anyones day, but from what i remember i think they were beginning to repaint Iron Dragon in the later part of Halloweekends. Did anyone else happen to see that?
