Ride breakdown

If your ride breaks down and it's decided the ride will be shut down for the rest of the day (Wicked Twister comes to mind) do the employees get moved to other rides, or are they given a paid day off?
It all depends on staffing levels. If rides are pretty well staffed then the crew might get sent home or sent to do cleaning projects around the park. If people are needed they will send the crew to the rides that are short staffed.

When Wicked Twister would shut down this summer, what they did with us really depended on the rest of the park, and sometimes where we were trained (and were allowed to work :) ) There were a few times we would have to be on call, other times they would send us to other rides, and on a REALLY good day, they would send us home. Those were the days they basically set us loose in the park to raise some hell... right guys ;)

Also, keep in mind that it is very rare that a ride closes down for the whole day at CP. WT earler this season was kind of a rare thing. Last year, we would be down for a couple hours - even a couple hours late at night - and we'd still go back up for the last hour or even half hour of the night. During this time we just did a lot of cleaning or guest interaction with anyone left on the platform. Heck, early in the season, we had cracked track and we were down a couple hours and then went back up.

Where did the track crack?

Do rides crack often? How soon after the crack to the people realize it?

I have found in my season at CP that the rides have problems pretty often but then again maybe it was just a bad year for that sort of thing. Typicaly we know within a few minutes because there are safety systems or we will hear it on a test ride but they are typicaly fixed within a few days.

Sometimes we'll be 'on call' as well. That happened a few times this year. The winds would be too high in the morning so we'd have to check in every few hours or so to see if we'd have to report to work. It was nice having time off, but you really couldn't do much since you'd have to check in.

"Hey, Cool. My voice is on the lift"

just a friendly word of advice from someone who found out first hand...CP doesnt like things with going wrong with their rides publicized in a forum (i.e. gossip pages) so unless it was released to the press, keep it in an email

We're hardly talking about secret information. I mean when guests walking around the park can see workers welding track back together, I hardly think a post here is going devastate CP's reputation! :) It's not really gossip in most cases. Stuff breaks everywhere. I'm willing to bet that the stuff that breaks at CP gets fixed quicker than many other places! :)

hmm...you guys should probably go thru and edit your posts. While it wont hurt CPs rep... it might scare 1 guest ;)

usually when i ride im so tanked it does not matter to me whether there is a crack or break somewhere!!! too bad the park edits obscene gestures out of the digi-photos! im surprised they dont react harsher.....ive seen alot of 1 finger salutes make it through.......
"Gosh, is the GW going backwards..." from the guest "Nah, that's normal". says the emp... guest ask " Is that normal for the WT to be parked there in the sand area" Emp. comments "Yep, it's normal".

My poor baby, getting all of this "Down Time" you say it like its a bad thing......we wouldn't have had the best crew in the park with out this time. Our crew is just awsome and we have a great time together....Yes we cleaned a lot but when we did get to work, we worked hard and tried to make the guests happy. Sometimes things didn't go our way but that is life. Oh and one more thing, our crew decided on a crew song, can you guess what that is??? the one the only, "I get knocked down, but I get up again!" heck they even played this song in our honor at the 10'oclock laser light show! Sometimes we would be so dead by that time our crew would sing it on the platform while the train was in motion, it made those nights mean something to us. It was us, and we are the Wicked Twister Crew of 2002!

Clean, clean, clean, clean, clean. SD-20 is really good at getting those yellow stains off your shoes from poping pedals.

that is sooo true, i remember one day, we were going to be down for a couple of hours again, and the train had been cleaned and it was basically spotless, we got the good SD-20 out and started cleaning our shoes, and then pretty soon we had half the crew walking around in their socks while we cleaned their shoes....Oh the great memories of cleaning and bonding all in one............Who knew Rich's feet could stink so bad?!?! ;) Gotta love me!!
