Resident Assistant?

I interviewed in Sandusky on Saturday, and on top of being told I would most likely be offered a job, I was asked about possibly becoming an RA in the commons dorms. They mentioned that this was a new program that they were trying, so I don't expect anyone to be able to tell me anything about their actual acting role in the building, but has anyone else heard any mention of this? Has anyone been offered the position, or heard about it enough to give me any information? Am I indulging hiring secrets on accident? =P Really curious to hear any answers, let me know what you know.

Also, kind of off topic, but does anyone know about the ability to ask for time off before I'm scheduled? I would definitely take the job, but I know that there's a weekend wedding that I would like to attend that I've already reserved a tux for. I'd be available to work literally every other day this summer except for that weekend, so I don't think a 3 day request would be TOO big an issue (I hope). I know that if I'm offered a job, that's the time to bring it up, but how well is that received? Do they usually respect those requests?

I actually like the idea of a RA in the dorms. Perhaps the quiet hours will be respected more than in years past (desk attendants can only do so much). I have noticed that some people tend to forget that some employees have to be at work quite early (5 - 9 am) and like to sleep at night. Of course their will be other issues that come up as well. Having a 3 day weekend for a wedding shouldn't be a problem if you tell your manager about it right away.

12 - Day off relief for the town / trail
13 - Not going to put that on the internet, but my uniform is not going to be purple...

Taking that time off is not a big deal at all! I have a vacation planned in June and I got the time off no problem. As for the RA... Yup, that's new. Haven't heard anything about it until now. I would LOVE to have an RA in Commons. While it won't be as social as a college dorm would be, simply because we're always working, it would be nice to have someone there to enforce the rules, particularly quiet hours! :)

How about a position to make sure people don't burn their food while cooking so the fire alarms aren't going off at all hours of the night.

Since this would be my first year, I'm not sure exactly how important it is, but I could certainly imagine that sleep might be slightly a little bit essential in a world where 14-16 hour days are common ;)

Since I don't have an actual in-writing offer at the moment, I don't want to speak in definite terms, but if I were offered that position, I would be much more likely to accept it now that I've heard this positive feedback. Frankly, I was partially hesitant to say yes when they asked me at the interview, just because I was afraid that the idea of an RA would just frustrate people who were used to things being a certain way.

Bump... mostly because I would really love that position if I could get it but there's no real info or established precedent that I could follow.

Would there be one for every hall or just every building?

I wouldn't know. Like I said, this is my first year as well as the first year of the program. Sorry =(

I feel like it's a good idea, just to keep things under control a little. Also, it will probably keep the CP police from having to come in for stupid reasons. Not a job I would want in a million years, though.

Funny story, I called in today to change the SSN on my application and I decided to ask about the RA position and no one seemed to know what I was talking about. So apparently it's not something that's being communicated to everyone around the park. I'll let you know if any of that changes.
