reservations anyone?

So I'm going to be working in reservations...just wondering if there are any words of wisdom/fellow workers out there who can tell me anything--absolutely anything--about what to expect. Bosses, work schedules, what you do most of the day, etc...

Working in res last year, oh man can I fill you in...whacha wanna know? Everything you'll ever want to know you'll learn in your first 2 weeks of training with Jade. Jade's cool, a little flaky, but fun. Linda's in charge of everyone, she listens to you when you're ready to "go live" (take calls on your own), Bri's in charge of concierges and is a res supervisor, Roxann is awesome, I could tell you stories all day... Donald's one of us, and as far as the new supers I dont know...Anything else you wanna know, either email me/msn message me at nmustorm@hotmail.com or AIM me NMUKat82. I gots lots of info I could share :)

Thank you for calling Cedar Point Central Reservations...
Thanks for the info!

A couple more questions...

What can you tell me about our uniforms? Are they awful or should I get pants/shoes of my own...

Did reservations all day every day ever get a little tedious? Were you answering calls all the time or did they ever give you other tasks? How are the hours?

Finally...I know you mentioned living at Breakers in another thread...is that only available to people who are working in accomodations/reservations, or could I pull others in? Though it's quieter, does it feel anti-social at all? Are the rooms nicer than the other housing options? Tell all :-)

You'll need your own shoes. Go to Sandusky Mall to get them. Get the pants from the park. They can deduct it from your paycheck and the only people that will see you are others in the same clothes.

It can be tedious at times because it is all day on the phones but find a way to connect with each caller individually and that will help. Every now and then you can get other tasks assigned. If you express interest in learning the front desk you might have that opportunity.

The hotel rooms (dorms) are not much different that your typical accommodation for employees. Biggest difference is they don't let things get out of hand since you are living, in some cases, short distances from paying guests.

I suspect you won't be able to bring in anyone from another department but I am not sure where that rule stands these days.

I suggest bringing your own black pants & shoes...most people I knew who got pants from wardrobe looked like they were waiting for a flood. uniform shirts are white with maroon pinstripes. I suggest either bringing a black cardigan/sweater or buying a sweatshirt from wardrobe (it is payroll deductible) because some days that office is freezing!!
The only days it got really bad were days after the Discovery channel aired a special about the park, then it got REALLY swamped! Be prepared for short breaks (1/2 hour to get where you're going and back), interesting phone calls, and a lot of fun. Get to know the people in your training class and those around you and you'll be fine...there'd be days we were so quiet we'd end up talking to each other, coloring in coloring books, Oh that brings up another point...Bring LOTS of magazines. there is dead time, and for me its too hard to put down a book after only a minute of reading. Most of all, have fun. Like Chief Wahoo said, find a way to connect with your callers and it will be a breeze :)
