Requests

Hello everyone. I recently have been hired for the season. I just have one question to any seasoned employees. How do requests work? I'm normally very timid about asking off work at my current job but there may be one or two evenings late May/early June I may need to be off. Who do I need to contact for this?

What department? If it's rides, just tell your supervisor or team leader when they're making the schedule.

But the more formal way to do it is go to your department office and ask for a day off request form. You can write the dates you need off, and they will let whoever is making the schedule know to not schedule you on that day.

Also, if your department is rides, the day before your day off, you get out early (your shift will usually be Open-6). The day after your day off, you come in later (usually 1:30-Close). Therefore, you have time to get your stuff ready and drive home (or wherever you go on your days off)

Hope this helps! I just really can't speak for other departments because I've only worked in rides. I'm sure other departments aren't too different though.

Thank you so much! Yes, I'm in rides. How early are schedules made? Two weeks in advance?

The schedules are for the following week and are only 1 week. They are usually issued by Park ops on Friday or Saturday night. The locations submit theirs by Wendsday night so you have an idea of when you will be working a few days out.

TwistedWicker summed everything up pretty well. I would like to add that a request for a single day can usually be granted by the ride leadership, during the main season. Time off requests longer than a day require your manager's approval. Keep in mind that they are only requests and they can be denied. Make sure you put your requests in as early as possible to get the best possible chance of getting the time you want off. The shoulder seasons (Open-Mid May, and Mid August- close) sees a lot of people go back to school. It is difficult to get time off during these times. If you know that you are going to need time here, make sure you let your manager know ASAP.

Congrats on getting hired! What ride?

And to add to what GDUBS said, with the time of the day(s) you may need off, I would contact your manager sooner rather than later. It's always better to revert needing a day off, than to ask too late and not get it.

Thank you all so much! It helps a lot!

As for rides, right now it lists my department as 7550 : CH PARK RIPCORD. Not sure if or what other rides however.

Awesome! I worked at ripcord at the beginning and end of this past season, and it is a lot of fun. You'll probably be seeing me fairly often, as it's my favorite non-coaster ride in the park. Feel free to PM me with any questions regarding the ride!

Hey Shorthorn, I'm going to be your Team Leader this summer! I'm looking forward to a great summer as the 20th anniversary crew of Ripcord!
