Cedar Point should bring back the remote control cars and boats, but with a new twist. Put your .50 cents in and drive around through the obstacles, every obstacle you clear you get a certain number of tickets used to be redeemed at the games redemption booth in the coliseum arcade.
Cedar Point has many areas where they could be placed throughout the park, taking up very little space and bringing in more money to the park.
I enjoyed the remote control boats the best, manuevering them through the tunnels, lighthouse, etc was a real blast when I was a kid!

What "areas" would you suggest?

Those were pretty cool. I have fond memories of the boats especially. Of course, that was before they started filling in all of the lagoons.

Even though I was real young when they existed, I still remember them. (The boats by ID. I don't remember the trucks or the boats in any other location) However, not until now did I realize that there were obstacles to drive through. I remember seeing lighthouses and such, but when I was at the wheel I was strickly "joy riding".
But I am definately all for bringing them back!
Also, does anyone know exactly what year they were taken out?
Those cars and boats were something I always liked to do when I was a kid. I remember the boats in the ID lagoon and I think there were stock cars in Kiddyland, though I seem to remember monster trucks in Kiddyland later on. If I had to guess I'd say it was the early '90s when they disappeared.
To me they're in a long line of "things that were neat to have but got axed because they don't draw crowds, get publicity, and increase revenue". SF Earthquake, Pirate Ride, Sky Slide, a historically preserved Breakers, Character Height Requirement Signs, etc.
Even with all the newer thrill rides I love, I still miss the little things.
I'm surprised a lot of you don't remember the boats over by the Pirate Ride. I always tried to talk my mom and/or aunt into giving me change to "drive" them, but it only worked once or twice. But yeah, I really do miss seeing the kids having fun racing the boats and trucks. I still look in the ID lagoon hoping that the boats will suddenly be there again, but they never are. :(

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
I always enjoyed them when they were under the loading bridge for Ocean Motion (now it's been filled in grass).
We chatted about this a few years ago:

Good find, DemonDroppin'! Walt posted a good picture of the boats under Iron Dragon in that thread:

I would assume the money generated wasn't enough to cover the cost of maintaining them. My son also liked dropping quarters for them.
Which brings up something else. My mom, who is 74 years old, has been wanting to make a trip to CP with me...her idea is to "play the games" when I ride coasters.
Hah! I told her there are no games for a quarter anymore (except for the arcade). Her two favorites were Fascination (she'd sit there for HOURS) and the Birthday Month or Color games where you put a quarter down and if the ball landed in your month (or color) you could win a small stuffed toy.
There really are no more cheap games anymore. Everything is $1, $2, and $5.

If it was that, it was definitely because of maintenance rather than the money that was earned, I would think. I was told by a 35 year employee of the park that back in the 70s when some parts of the park were still independent, there was a man who independently ran the duck/fish food dispensers in the park. He would come in once a day to empty the machines of money and fill them up with food.... Cedar Point took them over when they found out he was making more than $50,000 a year just on those dispensers. Stuff like that brings in a LOT more money than you can sometimes imagine.

I do! Man, I haven't thought about that area in years. It was pretty cool back in the day with the boat and all that.

Yeah the old Pirate Ride area is pretty dead now when I go to ride Blue Streak. I wonder if they'll add anything in the near future to bring some people back to that area?
I really never played with the remote control stuff, but if I saw them there again I'm sure I'd go ahead and try them out.
