Remember the Top Thrill Dragster cups?

My 9 yr old asked me an interesting question: Why did Cedar Point stop offering free refills on the Top Thrill Dragster souvenir cups? I think it was back in 2004 when you could buy a Dragster cup for $9.95 and get it refilled for free all season long. I think a year or 2 later they were refilling them for $2.

My son also made a great suggestion: Why don't they just give free refills for Joe Cool members?

Seems like whenever Cedar Point starts something good, (Free refills on Dragster cups, 25 cent cotton candy, etc) they always stop.

I don't really know why they stopped doing that.due to my love for pepsi I might have made them run out of products:). And that would be cool if JC members got free refills. I don't even think they have that fast pass thing anymore. I can never find it.

It happened in 2003. The advantages are obvious. The disadvantages are not so much obvious. For one, people tended to dump out their drink before rides causing a sticky mess. Also, free refills don't bring in as much money. I personally liked the free refills because I could ask for it half full and it wouldn't matter because the refill was free. I did that because a full container is just too much unless your into sharing...

During Coastermania, I (and a few other members of this site) pondered around the same question. We came up with the Idea of a small cup similar to the Coastermania cup (little 12oz cup) that was $20 for us people who go to the point a lot. Free refills throughout the season would be a major plus, but people who only visit the park every so often would stray away from it. It was nice to go up to a vendor and ask for a refill before getting in line.

I would buy it :D

At Six Flags Great America you can get a $9.99 refill cup and pay one dollar per refill. They also have $6.99 cotten candy refill bucket and $5.99 cotten candy refill bucket. For once I found something that Cedar Point should do that Six Flags already does. Not that i'm happy about it. Mabye Cedar Point will start doing something like this.

I just drink water at the park anyway. All that sugar does more to dehydrate you than anything else.

^ I'm with you, I rarely drink pop anyway because I have issues with my blood sugar on a good day, let alone a hot day of walking around. Though I can see how this would be great for people that do drink pop regularly at the park. The only thing is I would hate to have the carry that cup around all day or have to rent a locker everytime I ride MF or TTD just to hold my cup. Since these are sometimes the longest lines, I'd like my drink with me. If I have a paper cup or plastic bottle I can get rid of the container while I'm still in line.

On the flip side, the amount of paper cups used in this country is simply astounding. I'm not a total conservationist or anything but I feel kind of guilty about the amout of paper we (as Americans) waste on any given day. It can't be helped in many cases, but perhaps the plastic cup system would be a remedy for that?

Well, if you're like me, you don't attend CP on hot days. On cooler, less busy days (where it's less than say 85 degrees), I am at CP. If I absolutely feel the need to be there on hot days, I am only at SC. After attending for so many years like I have been, I've learned quickly that standing in long lines in the hot sun is not healthy, especially when you are redheaded, like my kids and I all are.

But honestly, I don't buy soda at CP. I did that year with the dragster cups but it was only because of the free refills. It is just too overpriced. In fact, I don't buy soda at any establishment, restaurant, or whatever. I work in a restaurant and know they pay next to nothing for fountain soda.

Anyway, I think the dragster cups were a good idea. They didn't lose money on any refills, trust me. And many people who don't normally buy soda (like me) probably bought that $10 cup!

Are you still able to use the maXair cup?

Holiday World has FREE unlimited Pepsi products all day, everyday for every guest.

Now you might think they lose money hand over fist on this one, but I actually drink LESS when it is free. I still get my fair share, but I only drink what I need as opposed to trying to drink the amount I pay for when it costs $$$.

And it's a great gimmick to get more people to the park. Rest assured that the cost is ofset in slowly rising ticket and shockingly high season pass prices.

But there is still a lesson for CP here...

Its not losing money hand over fist. Fountain drinks are nearly pure profit.

A 32oz pop costs, roughly, 6 cents (2 for the pop, 4 for the cup). Its practically robbery with what places charge.

Disney doesn't pay anything for their Coke products. They just print the Coke logo on the cups and get the product for free. So, in their case, the fountain drinks literally ARE pure profit.

Yeah, but Coke is more than benefiting from the relationship. Not to mention its in the south, where Coke practically owns everyones souls.

Yeah. Unless a place sells Dr. Pepper, I drink water. Besides, if I start to get dehydrated I get a headache and it won't go away until I go to bed and get a good night's sleep.

The free refills are a good idea though. From last year to this year I've noticed that the souvenir cups at Kings Island have degraded in quality. They used to be more solid and...souvenir like. This year I find myself wondering whether or not I should just keep it or throw it away.

ALSO. Am I spelling souvenir correctly? o_o

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

We bought a Dragster cup last halloweekends, and I want to say it was free refills for the rest of the year. This was Columbus Day weekend. But we were just at the park last week and used them for water refills, we also used our MaxAir cup. This year we discovered the packets of powder that you add to water, THEY ARE GREAT!! We stopped at Krogers and bought a couple of different flavors (grape, lemonade, orange) and just kept getting water all day and adding the packets. *** Edited 6/30/2007 3:40:31 AM UTC by 9 hour ride to RIDE!!***

Personally I like the kiddie snoopy cups. They are small and cheap to refill. But I like that they are small enough to fit in my waist pack.

I like the kiddie snoopy cups, too! I have about 25 of them that my kids drink out of...they're great cuz they have lids. I have so many because we used to eat at Midway Market a lot until they stopped doing the Joe Cool free kids thing.

Btw, does Midway Market offer a Joe Cool discount this season?

its called SODA...not POP

Soda is actually just as incorrect as pop. If you let the two combine then you will get the correct term: soda pop.

In northern Ohio, it's more commonly known as pop.
