First time to Cedar Point was in 1996, and I was mostly afraid of roller coasters. I thought Blue Streak was really high and scary when I rode it.

My family has been going to the Point for at least a few generations, so there's some history there. I've been goign since I was born, so of course I don't remember much, if anything, from the first few years. I do remember Magnum and Mean Streak having gigantic lines though. As well as Raptor when it opened.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
1991 I drove there alone in my first car after I graduated from highschool. I had been trying to get people to go with me for about 2 years. My friends sometimes seemed like they were going to go but keg parties seemed to get in the way for them. I was starting school again in the fall and thought I better pack up and go if I am ever going to go.
I don't remember much other than Raptor wasn't there. After riding Disaster transport I couldn't believe it was over... it seemed like a 15 second ride after all the original themed holding rooms and hype. Magnum amazed me. It's difficult to remember much. I guess it was almost 15 years ago. The first drive up the causway had me elated though. "A whole continent just for rollercoasters!".
My first conscious memories are from the early 1980's. I remember riding Earthquake (and being freaked out)...the Ol' Pirate Ride...and I remember riding the mine ride over...and over....and over...and over....
The thing that sticks out the most, though, is the feeling when the park first comes into view from the causeway. It was a 3 hour drive for us when I was a kid (from Defiance, OH...anyone?)...and I still get that same feeling today, only now Im driving so I have to make sure we dont go into Lake Erie.
Been going since I was 4. Remember a lot of the trip, fond memories. I was afraid of the big rides until I was about 12.
And Kevin, I am totally with you on the feelings you get when you first see the park. I went with my best friend last summer, and I was trying to desbribe how you see it across the water, and once it came into view we were both like 2 little kids seeing it for the first time. I always tell people I'm like Clark from National Lampoon's Vacation when he first sees Walley World!!
"And let's also not forget--let's not forget, Dude--that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city--that isn't legal either. "
It was 1996. I was a wee lad of 6 at the time, very young. It was a family trip, my mom, dad, sister and I. I remember being mesmerised by the giant green thing that was in the front of the park, it made loud noises, it was scary. I can remember the smells of sweet food and the entire atmosphere was alive.
But then... it was the rides that got to me. Well, I should say ride. White Water Landing. It was something that the whole family could enjoy. Even my mother, who has back problems, got on and we had a blast. I'll never forget that first drop, I was in the front of the boat, and could feel the refreshingly cold water all over.
It's a day I won't forget, and even though CP changes and my tastes in rides changes (read: Parents wont ride coasters), it still maintains that same level of charm as it did oh so many years ago.
Wow, I veered slightly off topic.

I too am a multi-generation Point visitor - 4th and my kids are 5th. My first real memory is when I was 2 y/o (1964). I went over with my Grandpa to pick up my Aunt who was working. We parked next to the Blue Streak and walked under it to get in - Didn't have to pay to go in the park back then. The Mill Race was right next to the Carosel. I sat on a wall that was right where the logs made the turn to finish the ride after coming down the hill.
