Rehire

Okay so I worked at cedar point in 2014 at various locations in the park. Due to my tardiness almost everyday, I was fired. I really want to work at cedar point again this year but I don't think I can get rehired. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? Am I allowed to reapply for this season? WHo do I go about talking to in order for me to get back at Cedar Point?

I'd say talk to your 2014 self, encouraging your 2014 self to be a responsible employee.

Pretty much any job that you are fired from will not consider rehiring you. I'm guessing CP is no different. Why would they/should they want to waste time with an employee like that again?

I'm pretty sure if you quit, you're not allowed to re-apply for 7 years, but i'm not sure about being fired.

I imagine she tried that as she was going out the door...

John Pratt said, "...if so try to change it was that was causing you to be late." This does not make sense at all. The entire post is confusing, but that was the worst sentence. No wonder you are not being hired. Proper grammar, punctuation and capitalization ARE important, especially when applying for a job.

This is the wrong forum for this, I'm moving this to the Employee Lounge.

Maybe if you apologize to your former boss and assure that you won't be late again.

Company's and Corporations do not work in this manner. The termination of any employee involves more than her "former boss". Managers, General Managers, Human Resources, and the Legal Department could all be involved in the determination to terminate an employee.

By her own admission she was late almost every day. Reliability is crucial to any business. Employees who are not reliable can be detrimental to the performance of the company. It causes other employees to work harder to make up the absent/tardy employee.

It is expensive to hire one employee. One has to factor in the cost of background checks, drug tests (if applicable), badging, uniforms, training, etc.

2. I don't think they check for spelling and grammar of job applicants.

Yes they do. Any employer checks that. They are less likely to hire someone whose application/resume contains spelling and grammar error.

3. In my post what I mean to say is try to change it that was causing you to be late, for example if she over sleeps, then she needs to get an alarm clock.

How stupid do you think people are? It's still her own damn fault. Not having an alarm clock would be the worst excuse anyone could ever come up with. Excessive tardiness is inexcusable no matter what the reason. If you had a problem that would prevent you from being to work on time, you should've thought of it before you accepted the job.

4. I have been interviewed twice, by two different managers since January 23, 2015 and my application has been placed on hold. I am going to call them tomorrow to find out what is going on.

I'm sure they love you calling them and pestering them so much. I'm surprised they haven't blocked your number yet.

Oh, you're clearing things up now?

1. Why are you telling US that?!?

2. Of course they do. They want educated people that can read and write.

3. I don't know even where to start with this one...

4. You don't understand the meaning of "Don't call us, we'll call you?"

I am also glad you are not a "hiring manager", whatever that is (since the HR department would be making job offers, not department managers), at Cedar Point, as I would expect someone in such a position to be able to communicate clearly.

You are not being "bullied" because you are asking questions. Your statements are being questioned because they are poorly written and difficult to understand. Most employers want candidates who can communicate clearly. (See Thabto's response above.)

Calling managers "all the time" may not discourage the company from hiring you, but calling "all the time" will also not encourage the company to hire you. I suspect the many people you pestered gave you a polite answer.

RCMAC: Wait! What?! This isn't Cedar Point's official website?

I just love how the word "bullying" gets thrown around here when we give good, factual answers. But that alarm statement really made me question alot of things. From the looks of it, I think your outlook is not very good. I think it's time for you to move on from getting a job at the park. If by some chance they do call you, it will probably be a job that nobody wants like scrubbing toilets.

Agreed. Disagreement with a posted comment isn't bullying, it's disagreement.

Dear John,

She admitted it was her fault. She was consistently late. Again she admitted where the fault lay.

When and employee is late almost every day is inexcusable. Sure they can explain why they are consistently late but it's only an excuse. It isn't the reason they were late. The reason usually lies with the employees own actions.

I'll use the example of staying up too late. That can, in and of itself, cause the employee to be tardy. However the employee gives the excuse out of embarrassment "my alarm clock didn't go off". The reason is not going to bed in a timely fashion. The excuses are I had a flat tire, my alarm clock didn't go off, my baby was sick, etcetera, etcetera.

No one on this board is bullying you. I explained to you how changing your job preferences mid stream could affect you employment. You then decided to delete the topic due to a misunderstanding. Now you had the topic reopened and posted that Cedar Point has verified what was explained my post.

I am not understanding your thought process in all of this.

Good luck to you sir.

I just can't see any good reason why they would rehire someone who was always late. I'm sure they'd get a good laugh out of the alarm clock excuse. But if you can't make it to work on time, you shouldn't get a job. That will even hurt her chances of getting a job elsewhere.

If a "No Rehire" indicator was placed on her file upon termination, it is very hard to remove. Especially so when so much time has elapsed.

I repeat, I am not understanding your thought process in all of this.

This is exactly what we have been harping to you. Repeatedly we have advised not to continue to call and have patience, even Jeff stated that.

That is what I just cannot fathom.

Somehow I see this going the way of Point Guru.

Did they tell you to call them, or did you keep calling them to ask them if you could call them? Common sense, to me, suggests that if you've made an impressive application, you won't have to repeatedly call a potential employer; they'll want to contact you as soon as possible.

What does anyone here teaching English have to do with anything? No one is perfect, but -- and I don't say this to bully or insult -- your grammar is subpar. If your grammar and spelling here reflects the same on your job applications or resumes, I would certainly deliver them to the circular file as soon as possible.

Well, I'm convinced John is a troll, or Timber Rider, same thing.
