They had to get out of the record-breaking business eventually. So, what better time than now? Besides, CP is always leading the industry. I'm sure in a couple years, all the other parks will start putting in "fun" rides like Maverick. I think they did a great job designing this coaster and it will be just as enjoyable (maybe more) than TTD and WT. We will find out in May (or August). :)
Tim, you made a great point. Cedar Point has always been an industry leader. With Maverick, they'll be leading other parks back to the "fun" factor, rather than just slapping up another ride to break a record. Sure, tallest and fastest are fun for some, but rides like Maverick will have a much broader appeal.
Are you ready for some serious side-windin'? I can't wait til May! :)
I think more people are going to be willing to ride this ride rather than Millennium, or Dragster, or even Magnum for that matter.

I can't remember the last time Cedar Point built a roller coaster that wasn't the biggest and fastest something.
That would be 1999 with the addition of Woodstock Express ;) The only other major thrill ride addition in the last 20 years to not break some sort of record would be Iron Dragon in 1987.
I was disappointed when I read stats alone... but when the Cedar Point announcement came through at 3:30am, and I saw the pictures and videos, I am absolutely thrilled with their choice!!
I know I'll be in line opening day!!

Check here for pictures.
Why do people get so worked up about an Aquatrax??? From these photos, I don't see what the big deal is about.
