Raptor Crack?

So I was riding Raptor today and about 3/4th of the way down the first drop it felts almost as something grabbed the train, like a trim. I know there is not a trim there so I thought it was just my imagination. For 2 more rides I felt it again. It was nothing major, it just felt as driving over a pothole in a road. I've never noticed this before, so is there normally a little bump near the bottom of the drop?

People said there was some major downtime Friday so could this have been them shoring up a crack? Also I know at the end of last year there was a crack, but I don't remember feeling anything different on Opening day. Where was the crack last year?

The downtime on Friday was wind related. There were no work crews on any part of the track that I saw.

It sounds to me like the section of track that was cracked closing weekend last year.

That's what I was thinking. I didn't notice anything wrong opening day so they smoothed out whatever was going on there closing day last year. Perhaps it cracked again... :)

I noticed while consuming fries on the midway that the crack spot (near the bottom of the hill, at the junction of two track sections, left rail) was quite rusty. It was bad closing day last year, but not terrible.

Thanks guys, that must be it. Today was the first time in a while I have ridden on the left side, all 3 times too.

Yeah, I'd say Raptor's like crack... oh.. you're asking about the track.

Is there anyway this can be fixed permanently? More then likely not. A crack can get pretty worse. An if they can't fix it permanently is Raptor heading for trouble? How come they fixed it right on the Cobra Roll an not this.

Of course it can be fixed, why not? I didn't hear any noise as the train crossed that spot on opening day, so I'm not convinced there's anything wrong until Jo or Hooper says there is!

LOL!!!! WOW, I didn't know I had that much Raptor expertise. Well I may let you all know tomorrow as I am thinking of taking a CP trip tonight. Seeing as media day was my last appearance. I guess my first ride this year will be on the left instead of right. :)

Crack-what crack? :)
When I rode Raptor on OD I was listening for that "thump" sound again and didn't hear it. Even rode on the left side,(ok, was FORCED to since UCICSFTJIP wanted MY seat) and didn't notice it then. But that doesn't mean it isn't still there. I'm sure my Raptor riding partner (and PIC) Hooper will let us know! Think about me Matt!! :)

Raptor expertise? Hooper and I? Nah!!! ;)
VERY funny Jeff!!! :)

When I read this header of this thread I thought that someone's addiction to Raptor had crossed the line. I was worried that they equated it to "crack".

If there is still a crack on the track of Raptor, is it still safe to ride. My first time riding it will be this summer, so did the crack effect the ride any? I mean, did it make it seem more frightening for a first time rider?

99.9% of people would never even know it was there.

I can say I wasn't aware of it on opening day. And considering how much I ride Raptor, I'm suprised I didn't notice the "bump".

Yeah, if I did not have xxxx rides on B&M's I would not have thought a thing of it. It's just that any little jolt on a Beemer seems odd. I'll leave it up to the experts to decide if its bad. ;).
Anybody who thinks there is a crack on the raptor is a moron..no offense...but seriously...wouldn't you think the experts at cedar point would of found out already and did somthing about it. i mean c' mon they're not stupid..they have daily inspections of all the rides...thay would have found the problem already and either shut down the ride or fixed it
Dennisk, that was uncalled for. First, Joe E. is a regular here at the site and one whose opinion is at least paid mind to by many.

Second, even if they fix a crack like that one that did, in fact, appear on Raptor, it is possible that it won't be fixed perfectly and that there will slight imperfection in the track that remains from the patch job. (yeah, so that one's a bit of a run-on)

I just got back from the Point about a half hour ago. Just to let everyone know, Raptor was down all day. The sign said it was due to the weather but every other major ride was open and I would think Raptor isnt majorly effected by wind. There didnt even seem to be an attempt to run the ride when the wind died down a bit. Dont know what to read into it but I hope its nothing major.
