Raptor Clone

Is it true that there is a clone of Raptor out there? If so what park and what is the name? I heard this somewhere, but I don't remember where. If anyone could tell me, Thanks!
There is in fact a clone, it's name Orochi (Japanese for Raptor) located at Expoland in Japan.

Actually.. Orochi is not Japanese for Raptor. There is no direct translation for "Raptor" in thier language.

Montu at Bush Gardens Tampa is almost a Raptor clone. It's got a few differences (the cobra roll basically drops down below ground level instead of a few feet), but basically feels like Raptor without all of its oomph. Fun, but we're way too spoiled having Raptor at CP.

Awww, bad day? Take a different perspective on things. Try upside down, a barrel roll, a cobra roll or a corkscrew. Life can't be all that bad when your feet are over your head!

Actually Montu is far from a clone of Raptor...

But about Orochi, in my opinion it is one of the ugliest coasters out there with its stupid paint scheme.

You are correct Rob, Orochi does not mean Raptor and there is no direct translation for Raptor in Japanese. Directly translated, aka transliterated, Orochi means "mythical eight-headed serpent" and is formed of two Kanji which mean "large/big" and "snake/serpent" respectavily. So the name does fit the ride and, in my opinion, could be translated as Raptor, the name of the coaster not the bird, if the translator knew about the Raptor at CP. At least thats how I see it.

Mozilla may have taken two years to reach v1.0, but it is more stable and secure than IE will ever be.

I was watching the travel channel this afternoon and they had on this show called Coasters of the west, (something like that). They were talking about this coaster called "Batman" I don't exactly remember where it was located, but when i was watching it, i was thinkin it looked pretty much like the samething as Raptor, exception of the colors and that there were 2 loops instead of 1. Anyone else who saw this, think the same?

There are several B&M Invert's around the country called Batman. The one you probably saw was Six Flags Magic Mountain built in 1994. The first B&M Invert.

Raptor is bigger, longer, taller, and has more elements that Batman.

Try Great America.... ;-)
Six Flags Great America was the first to receive the inverted Batman in 1992. The very first.

Back to the Raptor thing, is this park that has the clone anyway associated with Cedar Point? Since Cedar Point owns Raptor, right, other parks just can't build it because it's a great ride or do the designers own it, or how does that work?

I would imagine that B&M owns the design for Raptor. Cedar Point probably got to see different versions of Raptor for the space they wanted to use it in. This is just my inclination however.

I think we don't see more copycats (outside of each chain's individual parks) because the public doesn't want to ride on something that they can go down the road and ride.

Ok. it was a long day..

Now that I think about it I remember... ok.. I was wrong..

No the park that has the clone has nothing to do with Cedar Point or Cedar Fair. I'm sure it was more of a B&M thing.

Cedar Point/Cedar Fair has only started playing copyrights on rides and names recently.

haha i admit i was wrong as well. i thought it looked strange that the one in jersey was 1993 cause i knew the first was 1992, but i didn't really want to look into it.

Orochi is 3937 feet long whereas Raptor is 3790 feet. Not an exact clone, but damn sure close enough. (numbers stolen from RCDB)

I own you!

Orochi is the Japanese term for a mystical eight-headed serpent. Ahh, the wonders of the internet.

Can a park copyright a ride layout? I know they do for names but could they copyright the layout for example Millennium Force or Magnum?

I would hope that Six Flags, or any other park, wouldn't just built a giga coaster 310 ft. tall and that goes 93 mph, and make it look a lot like Millennium Force. Their has to be some sort of boundary.
